Bill Norman, the long-time owner of WZKY-AM and WSPC-AM in Albemarle, passed away this morning. Bill suffered a stroke last month. Bill lived in North Myrtle Beach where he owned and operated WNMB-AM 900. He is survived by his wife Susi and their daughter Jenni.

I have said I would look him up next time I went to the beach, but it just never happened.

I can say that Bill was passionate about things that he cared about...the Confederacy (a BIG Civil War fan)...AM Radio (he pushed AM Stereo, both in Albemarle and NMB)...Ford Mustangs and Classic Oldies.

BTW...I forgave him for firing me from my last radio job 20 years ago. It was the final impetus to hang up the headphones and move on to ministry and television.

Now the big question is what is Suzi and Jenni going to do with WNMB. I just don't see them having the drive that Bill had to keep this station going in the direction Bill did. Come on, ladies....prove me wrong on that point!

Later . . . .

I too am sorry to hear this... I had just talked to him recently and planned to go see him in November when we were in Myrtle Beach! My condolences to the family!

Arrangements for Bill Norman:
Visitation will be from 6-8 this Wednesday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend, NC. His hometown. There will be a private burial at a later time.

"We will be putting together a time for all of his friends in his beloved North Myrtle Beach to come by the radio station to share their memories and celebrate his life. We ask that people please wait until that time to come by the station, but I will share the date and time as soon as I have it." - Jenni Norman

Not me....there is another Matt Smith who is the owner of WZKY and WSPC in Albemarle. I believe that is the Matt Smith who is doing mornings on WNMB now.

Later.....
