Bill O'Mara Profile on KING-TV

If you get a chance..check out KING weekend news. VERY nice tribute profile for Anacortes' Bill O'Mara on his 90th birthday. He was one of the original crew at KING-TV along with Lee Schulman and many others who were absolutely brilliant in their innovation of how local television would work. Things like inventing the long lens to cover hydro races, converting a bread truck into one of the first local "remote" units, and so forth.

Hopefully they will post this tribute segment on the web site too (I could not find it yet as of this post).

Bill O'Mara is one of the best....he's known me since I was a little guy. We get together fairly regularly---at least once a year.....he's doing what he loves and what he does best....

My dad--Jack Hemingway had the honor of working with Bill for a number of years at KFKF-FM/AM in the 60's. And I worked with Bill in the mid-80's at "Radio123"/KWYZ in Everett. I programmed and did mornings and Bill was of course "Bill!"

He's the best....bright as ever...and just as entertaining now as he was 30 years ago......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND!!!! Love you Bill!!!!

What a great story and tribute to one of the best...my friend Bill O'Mara---good job---actually excellent job KING-5!!!! ;D

Yes, quite a talent, but also a good reminder of how local news personalities have changed over the past 40 years. Such a different era, the staccato delivery, the "importance" of the story, etc. have now been replaced by entertainment, exciting plays, and controversy about almost every event and sports star. Seattle was a much different place in the 1950's, and so were our TV broadcasters.

Thanks KING 5 for remembering one of our own on a big day. In an era when we've all become so disposable it's great to see someone like Bill, not survive, but thrive! Well done sir.
