If there are any details of what transpired and of possible memorial services...please do post them...my dad worked with Bill as well as me....he is one of a kind...and one great guy.....he will be missed for sure!!! An amazingly long career and he had pretty much done it all.....

It's a nice piece because he's still with us at that point, and talks about how he detests retirement! It's amazing how many people leave when their motivation and incentive (anything from a job to loss of spouse, etc.) is gone. While KLKI new owners at the time were making a business decision, I was impressed that they held a "going away" event for Bill on his last day on-air (7.31.07).
(on a different note I was also scouring the archives on this board to find other references....and it's amazing to go back through a four year history and realize what a bunch of complete tools all of us really are!!!!)

Bill O'Mara: what a career and inspiration. Didn't know the man, but reading the history on him can leave even the lamest broadcaster inspired

About that article - it proves that NOTHING has changed in radio for 60 years. You are always in danger of being axed. And station owners have always lied to us. I can easily think o0f 3 or 4 times when I was part of a staff that was gathered together to be reassured by new owners that nothing would change, we were all good and they couldn't be happier. A few weeks later, half of us would be gone.
So Bill went through it as well. The key - as the article points out - is bouncing back. Bill did it. I do it. You probably have done it. Just part of our chosen profession.
