Bill O'Reilly leaving radio?

There's a story in the NY Daily News that says Bill O'Reilly will end his radio show sometime next year. To quote O'Reilly "it will happen". It's probably good that affiliates like WECK have a long head-start in thinking about his replacement.

It's an open question how a lot of stations will replace him, since there don't seem to be any new national hosts emerging as potential stars right now. Some of his big affiliates like WOR in New York may very well go local and hire their own hosts. Others may just grab the cheapest available alternative and hope for the best.

O'Reilly never got much traction in the Rochester market while he was being carried on WROC-AM 950 a few years ago before it changed to progressive talk. Bob Savage would be the best person to tell you if O'Reilly's gotten more done in terms of listenership and billing since he was put on the WYSL schedule.

Personally I would like to see WYSL replace O'Reilly with more local talk. For some reason I can't stream O'Reilly's show on my computer when I am in the office. On the road I get a kick out of his "Fair and Balanced" reporting. O'Reilly is about as "Fair and Balanced" as Keith Obermann of MSNBC is a right-wing conservative. Actually I would pay money to see those two guys go at it on a TV or radio talk program. As Palin would say "that would be a hoot."

Well, if Mr. Savage is in need of programming ideas I would suggest he air either Miller live or put Neal Boortz on in O'Reilly's place, although I don't know if Boortz would have the same appeal to Rochester conservatives as he does to Atlanta and Birmingham conservatives(geographical differences, but then again I'm not conservative so maybe he would be appealing). I also think expanding Nojay or hiring a new local host could work as well.

Of course there is always a certain host who in not Limbaugh and airs at the same time as O'Reilly but I really shouldn't be making such scandalous remarks.  ;D
