My first job in radio back in 1964 was at WSJR in Madawaska, Maine, the Northernmost city in the adjacent 48 states. The highlight of my time there was introducing Dick Curless to the listeners. Dick was a native of the area and he brought his very first 45 rpm record to me to preview. I loved the song and was the first DJ in the nation to interview him and play his song - Tombstone Every Mile. Dick loaded up his trunk with 45s and drove all the way to Nashville, stopping at radio stations along the way to hand out copies of his song. By the time he got to Music City, his little truck-driving tune was a top five hit. It was the first of many charting records for the man from Aroostook County, Maine.
