Bill Reid on JACK??

I just heard a short commercial on JACK for something I can't remember (heh). "I'm Bill Reid for 96.5..."

I wonder if this is a precursor to jocks on 96.5 again. What do you all think? If I ran the world, along with Bill Reid, I'd have R&M, Scott Vanderpool, Cathy Faulkner, Crow and others all on the station. ;D

Would you also change the call letters to kzok?

Not that I disagree with you on your choices though - it just seems like most (all?) of these people have passed through there at one point or another.

That and KISW. ;) Or KXRX.

Heard the same "commercial" today (it was for Jack's text-messaging request service, BTW). Kimi Kline has done the same type of "announcements". I wouldn't bet the farm that you'll be hearing Mr. Reid pulling a live airshift on 96.5 any time soon.

It's obvious the station is struggling though. Do you keep the format and add talent or do you abandon the format completely? I mean what's currently missing from the Seattle airwaves? I saw someone mention Jack going the Free-FM route, but I haven't seen any of those stations doing any good around the country. And one could argue that KISW is more of a talk format rather than a rock format.

A full-signal Hispanic station. And 99.3 doesn't count. You can hear it fine in Seattle but it's weak in the North.

Why Hispanic? In case you missed it - the Census Bureau says Hispanics are the largest growing segment of the population in Washington State. And since Viacom has a 10% equity stake in Spanish Broadcasting System, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for them to design a format for Seattle.

And if CBS doesn't take the plunge - Entercom just might.

The large operators seldom delve into these fringe formats. Spanish & Contemp Christian are successful formats that major operators simply won't do. Part of it is a lack of expertise, as well as no demo integration into other cluster members. But the biggest element is they don't know 'jack' about the formats or how to sell them. Hey - I'd be reluctant too...

Well whoever does it (CBS, Entercom, Sandusky) I'd sure like to hear some more radio in this town that's less "Jack" and more live talent with personality.
