Bill Shields, WBZ TV reporter, has passed away.

A longtime Boston television news reporter has died following a courageous battle with cancer. Bill Shields, remembered by his colleagues at WBZ-TV as a great reporter and friend, was 70 years old. Shields was a familiar face who appeared on television for WBZ for more than 41 years before retiring in September 2021.

Yes, it was on WBZ RADIO today. Cancer in 2013 went into remission (code for "just laying low for a while"). Back in 2018, but this time determined to win. We're sadly not there yet where we can consistently prevail over cancer.

I've seen a lot of tributes for reporters (both radio and TV) who have died, I can't ever remember as many and as eloquent ones that are being posted on social media by everyone who has ever met him even if from competing outlets.

Off camera he must have been one hell of a man

When Chet Curtis (WCVB/NECN) died a few years ago (from pancreatic cancer), there were tributes galore. Even Keith Olbermann (who as a young sports anchor worked at WCVB) delivered a beautiful remembrance at the end of his tv show at the time.
