Bill Yeend

Is this Mr. Yeend's final week on the air before retirement? I wonder if KOMO is doing anything special for him.

This morning Manda said to Bill, something like, "You have eight days to go." And then added that taxes are due on April 15th, before going into a tax story.

Your 2011 taxes are due this year on the 17th! The 15th is a Sunday and there is a local Monday holiday in Wash. D.C. this year that bumps the due date until Tuesday. Procrastinators delight.
As for BY, I think Friday is his last day on your radio. Lucky guy, great run!

Bill Yeend,

One song comes to my mind, Tina Turner..."The Best", for over 30 years, simply the Best!!! Happy fairway hunting Bill!

Good for him! Even with all the staffing around him, he clearly ran the KIRO morning slot in machine-gun fashion. Like a top-40 speed-jock with news instead of music as the core product. You knew the end was coming for him at KIRO when you started hearing A metal-Music bed during the news intro's. Enercom was in and beginning to dismantal the 50kw blow torch..Yeah, right...the "good ol' days"..

Amidst all the change and challenge of our industry the “good” stories sometimes get lost. One Christmas morning years ago I was set to host my regular shift on KIRO. My kids were young and Bill knew how important it was for them to have dad home that day. Out of the blue he called and volunteered to take the shift, on a weekend morning no less. A class guy, a great mentor, a friend always. Best to you Bill!

Bill, I never got to meet you personally. But in my generation, you will always be the TRUE radio news voice. That friendly voice that made even the worst Mondays not quite so bad.

The one radio morning host I grew up with from elementary school to the middle age dude I am today. Countless radio morning shows have come and gone. but there was ALWAYS Bill Yeend.

The same guy I could play around both Grandma and the kids with confidence. An anchor who could have made it SUPER BIG exclusively on TV, but stuck to radio.

Even with all of radio's shortcomings today. On top of Facebook, Twitter, instant streaming video, the internet in general as well as cable TV and the local TV news and a jillion other distractions between 5-9am in 2012, your voice and style alone made radio DISTINCT from EVERYTHING else. And an indispensable companion.

I'm going to miss that Bill.

Take care my friend.....Cheers!

Was Yeend fired? Were Brian Calpert and Brian Gregory fired? If so, who fired them, and why? Bill Yeend is legendary and is not that much older than either Bill Rice or Gregg Hersholtt. Something really fishy about these recent departures, along with Herb Weissbaum departing KOMO for a "consumer" show on KVI, a station with record low ratings. Poor management to make so many changes at once.

He sounds both ill-informed and bitter. Not a good combination. ::)

Maybe so, but Bill Yeend is the greatest. He will really be missed and the truth must be exposed as for the reason(s) why he left. He was not that old.

Reminds me of when Larry Nelson was fired in 1996.

Here's the horrible, SHOCKING and GHASTLY truth on why he is no longer at KOMO. Prepare yourself. Have small children and sensitive people leave the room, it's extremely graphic.....

You can probably surmise that I either was just fired, or, have never worked there.
