Billboard

Wow. The Clear Channel owned billboard at 465 and 96th on the North side actually has an ad for something other than Q95. And it's another radio station - HANK FM!

It's a great location and I never thought Q95 would part with it. Not only that, but it must be an expensive location. Emmis is putting out some money for promoting Hank.

Interesting news. I am only 27, but ever since I can remember that billboard has been a Q95 board.

And the costs for cleaning up the graphics all the time are high. Graffiti

Emmis advertises on Clear Channel billboards in Chicago as well. So it's not really a surprise for see to see something like that. I believe they also advertise on CBS billboards as well. Since the billboard part of Clear Channel is a separate division, it can accept most other advertising, even for other radio stations outside of Clear Channel.

I know that other radio companies advertise on each others billboards. No big deal there.

My shock is in the fact that for as long as most people can remember, that has been a Q95 billboard. Now to see something different on it is strange, especially since it's another radio station not owned by the same company.

Over the last few years or so, there has been a screeching halt in advertising for Q-95. When I move to Indy in the late 80's, EVERY (and I mean EVERY) had a Q-95 bumper sticker on the back bumper and a Q-95 license plate on the front. Even in one of Mellencamp's videos, you see a car driving down a lane, with a B&T Q-95 bumper sticker displayed.

Now, nothing.

The decline in Q stickers is partially due to the aging of the station's audience. Those in their 20s are much more likely to display a sticker than those in their 50s.
Q gave over the younger audience to their sister station WRZX in the 90s. Not sure if WRZX has ever done much of a bumper sticker campaign, but they've never had a massive morning show like Bob & Tom.

There was a story a couple weeks ago in the Star that stated that one of the bigger billboard companies went out of business and so all their billboards have been, shall we say, unattended? Perhaps Emmis took advantage of this?.....not bloodly likely however, it would have been a good story...

They did do a sticker campaign right when 103.3 became WRZX. kinda lousy looking white stickers with black text and a red and yellow X. later they did stickers with a blue X. that was still a while back though.. and "the fox" which had 103.3 before wrzx also had a sticker campaign with a (big surprise) fox on it.
