And why do you have a problem with these songs? Because they are on pop radio? Whats up with the "Dean of dance"

Come on man..

This is the kind of attitude that keeps dance music out of the mainstream. This elitist attitude that just because the song is on the Pop chart and is not Madonna, then it can't be a real dance hit. The whole point of dance music is to get people to dance in clubs, if it takes frickin' Polkas, than so be it. For instance, my fiance is a HUGE vocal trance lover (not really my cup of tea, I am more Chicago hard house, or breaks) and she LOVES Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado. Still not good enough? OK, example, I was at a New Years party at the Hilton here in Portland, and there was atleast 1000 people in the main hall with ages from 21-50. Midnight rolls around, and over the PA comes two Justin Timberlake songs: "Sexyback" and "My Love", they played (if I remember correctly) the Oakenfold version of "My Love." And guess what, everyone was on the floor dancing. I will take that small victory for dance music.

I would almost bet you dollars to donuts that Rihanna sold more albums than September, Edun, Dave Guetta and Reic Prydz combined, and if even a 1/4 of those sells were the double disc version (with the house remixes on the 2nd disc) I would take that win for dance music. Because hopefully, some Hip-hop loving teen will hear a house versioni of "Umbrella" or "Please Don't stop the music" that they fall in love with, and then want to hear more dance music.

You can have your own opinion, I won't say that you are wrong, but man, if you want dance music to continue to be around, you can not have that same attitude.

Let's break down that list first of all.

The list says "dance airplay". The artists that I have tallied "NO" on are mainly involved in genres that are NOT dance (such as Rhianna - R&B/Pop, Justin Timberlake - Pop, The Killers - still trying to figure out WHAT to call them.). I will recognize the artists for what they are, but NEVER dance. And as for the artists I gave the "nod", then hey, bring it on! Bring on more! It's not being elitist....it's calling things for what it is.

In no way am I going to bash the dance remixers of these songs. And in that same realm I am not going to bash radio airplay of pop-remixes either. I DON'T have a problem with DANCE songs making pop....Cascada is the perfect current example of that. I actually AGREE that if some pop-remixes help the "big picture", then fantastic! Yet let's call it for what it is.

Everyone here KNOWS how hard (to the point of "ad nauseum") I want for dance music to succeed and grow in the U.S. And not just the radio picture either. But it's going to take a major change all around for things to happen. I've even changed the coalition name to what it is because I realize that the issues with dance music are WAY beyond just calling for more of it on the radio. In that sense, I felt "pigeonholed" keeping it only on that one track when more HAS to be done.

However comparatively speaking to past charts, this actually is an improvement.

Again that is an airplay chart, this is what the stations are playing. No one is going to go in and eliminate all of the "non_dance" tracks. By your calculations there would be maybe 10 dance songs.

I am tired of hearing people say what dance is and what dance isnt. Our genre loves to narrowcast itself. Guest what we need to broadcast ourselves. Thats why we are where we are

The songs on that chart, as played, are indeed all dance and that was the point of the original posting. I don't believe that the post was a statement as to the "genre status" of the artists involved.

I am 100% in agreement that people that continue to narrowcast what is and isn't dance music aren't really helping the big picture. Dance music is a feeling. It's open to any and all comers. Any and all artists.

I FEEL THAT "CRY FOR YOU" SEPTEMBER, "AGAIN" KIM LEONI AND "WORLD HOLD ON" BOB SINCLAIR WERE THE BEST TRACKS OF 2007.ON ANOTHER NOTE WHY DO SONGS LIKE CRY FOR YOU(A PERFECT FIT FOR TOP 40) GET PASSED OVER AND THE WORST SONGS USUALLY ARE THE ONES SUPPORTED? I LOVE DANCE MUSIC TO THE CORE BUT PLEASE ENUR "CALABRIA" REALLY SUCKS AND DOES NOT FIT TOP 40(I CAN SEE IN A CLUB BUT ON THE RADIO IN STEADY ROTATION?!?!?!)

I totally agree with you on September and Bob Sinclair those were huge as for the Kim Leoni good song but we never really gave it a shot here in El Paso. But not that they get forgotten about it's just that it takes forever to get promoted remember "World Hold On" came out in 06 and didn't get promoted until 07. But I have to disagree with you on "Calabria" it so does fit radio! and is still in power rotation to this date on our station and even our competition which labels itself as " #1 for HipHop and R&B" had to put it on power rotation its just the song is so huge in this market. but then again every market is different. right now we are trying out Martijn Ten Veldon - "I Wish You Would" lets see if any noise will be made with it

I WISH YOU WOULD IS A NICE TRACK...HAVE YOU ALREADY ADDED JES HEAVEN OR PLUMB IN MY ARMS???WE GET A HUGE RESPONSE FROM THEM BOTH.ENUR IS LIKE CASCADA,LASGO AMBER ECT WHEN TOP 40 IS WILLING TO ADD A TRACK EVERYBODY LIKES IT. MY POINT WAS WHY NOT MORE ADDS AND THAT I FEEL "CRY FOR YOU "WAS A BETTER CHOICE.ALSO CASCADAS MIRACLE WAS A MUCH BETTER TRACK THEN EVERY TIME WE TOUCH.LASGO'S SOMETHING GREAT TRACK .THEIR FOLLOW UP ALONE WAS A GREAT TRACK.NO ONE TOUCHED IT ON TOP 40.WHY NOT DEVELOPE THE ARTIST?I JUST DONT GET IT

yeah... if u like Nelly Furtado , u really should check out some of the recent dance hits from Europe....

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back in the USA ... and around the world... hip-hop and r&b are finally dying out.....

everyone knows that the hottest dance tracks come from the euros.....check this compilation series on itunes... it's the "Euro Club Hits" series... for example..... extremely good stuff -- here's the direct itunes link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/...edSearchResults?albumTerm=Euro+Club+Hits+Vol+

Seriously, stop with the spam. The link to that compilation doesnt need to be put in every message. You need to stop creating fake screen names just to promote your "favorite" compilation ::)
