Billl Cunningham is taking over Drudge's Show

From Kiesewetter's Blog

I wonder if Bill will have the stooge report ;D

http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/tv/

After stints subbing for Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, Bill Cunningham gets his own weekly national radio show starting Oct. 7. Cunningham will replace Matt Drudge and "The Drudge Report" on Premiere Radio Networks (owned by Clear Channel) on Sunday nights.

A waste of airtime, that's how I think he will do. I looked forward to the 3 hours of Matt Drudge on Sundays. It was a different view and spin on similar stories. Now, we will get the Sunday cartoons at night as well, on the radio. I for one, will not listen to his sophomoric brand of so-called humor. Weak decision!

I like Willie, but a replacement for Drudge he isn't. Bad casting that will not maintain the audience Drudge built. Another bad idea from Premiere. The Jacor mail boy is in way over his tiny sycophant head.

I think you may all be forgetting how good Cunnigham is...when he does a serious show, there is none better. He didn't win a Marconi award for nothing. I think you will see a different side of Willie the side that is extremely intelligent, very plugged in, and certainly a strong conservative voice.

At least it's not as bad as David Lee Roth replacing Stern... ughhhh, wait a minute...

I agree that Willie can be great at explaining issues..when he wants to. I've heard it locally when he lays his schtick aside and speaks clearly when he discusses a particular issue. Thats Willie at his best. But how often does that happen? Under 5% of the time?

I just don't see him basing his new show upon his ability to get into an issue and see various points of view about it. Hosts today don't seem interested in exploring opposing points of view, just in defending theirs.

Drudge Radio has become less interesting over the past couple years. I think you can judge a show by the number of pre-recorded clips they utilize during the show, more is not better. Drudge has been using them, a lot.

The way I see it, it could go either way. I hope its not schtick.

Sometimes I think the direction these shows go depends upon how the host relates to the callers and which callers make it to the air.

I am a Willie fan, but I find this decision to be odd at the least...Mike McConnell seems defanged since going national and would hate to see Willie become "neutered"...

::) LOL. only in cincinnati would there be more negativity about a local host taking over such a great spot. i swear there's something in the water that makes you locals be the way you are.

Agreed--by far the most negative place I have ever lived.

Muppet and Nasti...please stop saying those mean things! You're hurting our little feelings! We small-town yokels just aren't as sophisticated as you big city guys.

You two must not read the other boards. Jay Severin took a beating on the Boston board when he went national.

What's "The Nasti" anyway? I thought you and muppet were the same guy.

Unless there's been a radical switch in the past couple of years, having Willie instead of Drudge is a GREAT move.

I surf Drudgte's website; I even used to like his show on Fox News back in the day. However, that radio show was terrrrrrrrible.

Now unlike a lot of you, I don't listen to radio shows I don't like, so maybe the show got better in it's final years.

Still, Willie is a seasoned pro and very entertaining. This will help liven up a dead radio timeslot. Great news!

I think most locals know more about our local hosts and what their shows were like in the 'old days'. Willie still has his local roots and it shows, probably because he still only talks to Seg and never takes calls. :D

Trust me, the shows were more interesting and more varied in the old days. Especially McConnell's program. Each day was varied by which particular repeat callers called in. It was Mike himself that always stated a national show wouldn't be interesting.

BINGO. that's the core problem with locals: always talking about cincinnati in the past-tense. especially Baby Boomers.
my mind has moved on to amusement by the common mentality here. i've also learned how to press some buttons both online and in person to get you locals wound up. good times.

I don't know what else you'd expect to hear in here. This is the Cincinnati board. There's certainly not much of a future in locally based talk radio, so the topic goes to the past. I imagine you'd find the threads in the other local area boards doing the same thing, assuming they had hosts who have since gone national.

why is the standard response to my observations/critiques a comparison to "other boards"?
is that really the best option for a counter-point? or is changing the context the only way to find some kind of redemption?
just curious b/c it seems everytime i, or a few others, call out the less-than-good vibes about cincy and local radio, there's always the other side of the fence point made. it's kind of sad and validating to me.

Isn't that what you want?

THANK YOU!! Most people here are either retired or fired...

This from the big Chicago native? Pretty small of you, if you ask me. Maybe you need to get a life. Again, you show yourself to be everything you accuse us of being. Hypocritical, no?

This is a board isn't it?

don't correct bad grammar or punctuation...or even bad ideas.

We say what we think.

If you want to substantiate or start rumors, do it at the coffee machine at the station or you are invalid.

If you want to bitch about how good it used to be, and we all do in certain ways, as no one can say radio is more fun now than it used to be...unless they are still oblivious and gulping pitchers of the kool-aid--go ahead...glad somebody still cares enough about the medium to discuss it. But don't bring in what High School you went to, or what Parish you grew up in, or whether you cut your teeth in Hillsboro or Rising Sun...unify, idiots, as we all share the same fate.

Deliver content or get paid less than a cab dispatcher.

There are more avenues than radio now. Although radio is a great way to market those avenues.

Be unique.

It's all we are anyway.

Keep bitchin at eachother...it sure is fun to watch, however it would be more fun if you would include video...(hint at the future, old people.)
