Billy Bush gone from B100

Noticed tonight that Billy Bush is no longer on B100. I understand this was a move by Cumulus nationwide, but do you think they will continue to offer a live radio show at night to go up against Kiss FM's syndicated show? Is this a temporary move or one that will continue as long as they have home turf to defend?

Anyone check out the new Kiss FM yet? I have it on at work and I have to say, while it seems decidedly more upbeat, it has a very high level of repitition. Something I guess that is to be expected from a Clear Channel CHR, --EnergyDeKalb2

Bush was programmed terrible at B100...Billy The Kidd on KISS sounds way better. The whole station is better than B100 music choice wise, B100 still playing older stuff that sucks. B100 has the edge since they are live mornings/middays/afternoons (we'll see about nights) and it's all local.

It's been 10 years since I've heard B-100. Back then they were an amazing station, and they also forced 98.9 to get better. I guess the lack of competition made them complacent and they began to slide. The Saturday nights they did at Stars and Stripes was great. Amazing high energy and cutting edge dance music that also made it into regular rotation. I don't know what happened because they came out so strong.

Ditto!!!

I remember driving back to Ames from the QC one Saturday night in 2003. All I can say was it was some of the best CHR in Iowa I heave heard in MANY years. They did a local request show before the Mix show that started later on in the evening. On the request show many of the requests were for some very cool dance tracks and they were playing ALOT of them! I couldn't believe some of the stuff they played and how good it sounded! Then they did Hot Mix later in the night. All the while 98-9 was competing with Open House Party just down the dial a few notches. Definately spoiled the QC for good music and it was a shock to the system for many when they regressed to the conservative CHR lean they did when 98-9 went bye-bye.

Of course, radio was different then and Cumulus was a different company then too. I hope DSM gets something like that if one of the outlets goes CHR here against KISS. HITS 99.9 is good but we need it on a larger signal.

I remember the request show as well, it sequed so well into the hot mix. Both programmes were must listens for me, and I was (and still am)an alt rock fan! It was so progressive for a top 40. I also had the luxury of z 102.9 from Cedar Rapids as well. B100 had a lot of people switch from other stations on Saturdays.

Back in those days, B100 had a decent sized Cedar Rapids audience and provided a choice. Sometimes, they would have weeknight house mixes. They were leaning Rhythmic before All Hit 98.9 went away. The night show was full blown Rhythmic. I think both they and Cumulus suster station Q 92.3 in Waterloo, which was Rhythmic leaning when they started, forced Z 102.9 to embrace more dance music as they eventually hired a former resident DJ for local clubs and started a local mix show that she hosted.

And of course as soon as the competition dissapeared, that all went away. They no longer had to worry about anything as CC wasn't going to go after them, and I kind of think CC didn't really like the way 98.9 was programmed as it didn't fit their mold of top 40, so they let B100 have that segment of the listeners. Now they have returned with Kiss FM, and as I said before, extremely repetitive, but you hear some songs you don't hear on B100, and they have not seemed to make any kind of shift or change at all to go up against Kiss. Now once the commercial campaign starts, B100 will have to do something different. Will they get hotter like they did back in the day? They have a lot of the same jocks on board, they could bring Jeff James over from Star to do hot mixes again. They could drop open house party on the weekends, see if Kiss picks it up, go live Saturday nights again, get a club presence. But alas, this is Cumulus, and Cheap Channel, and I imagine B100 will just continue along and pretend Kiss isn't even there, knowing that Kiss can't do much with a mostly sattelite feed.
Time will tell tale.

According to B100's "On Air Now" section...Kevin Walker is on nights, listened for about 20 min. this evening, and didn't hear him. So can't confirm that. If he is, that would make it at least another local program. He was working Middays, Cody Tucker who was on weekends is on 10AM-3PM now.
