Billy Bush gone from WKDD?

I just saw on WKDD's website that Billy Bush was no longer listed under the on-air tab. I wonder if his syndicated show ended or if the station dropped it on its own.

Fantastic, bring on the next mediocre outside-market female voicetracker! Gotta keep it consistent with middays and afternoons. ::)

Surely you're not questioning the genius of D. Wallace?

WKDD needs to freshen up its programming, especially its jock lineup. They sound more canned and dull, unlike WQAL in Cleveland. KDD also needs better imaging. The voiceover is kinda dull.

I think with Bush gone, they can do more different things at night. How about the 80's at 8? That can set them apart from the other stations.

KDD is supposed to be an Akron station, but they are constantly beaten in the overall ratings by WDOK, WAKS and now WHLK. Music-wise, what KDD has to offer is no different than WAKS, WDJQ, WHBC-FM, WQAL and WHOT.

WKDD's fall from grace can be attributed to three things:

1) The move to 98.1... which turned out to be far worse than anyone ever expected. What was once an Akron station with some appeal in the Cleveland market (due in part to advertising on WBNX/55) to a Canton station with some appeal in the Akron market. And it wasn't rectified until late 2010. But that destroyed WKDD beyond repair.

2) The gradual homogenization under the Clear Channel programming schematics. WKDD's music programming soon became more generic and less unique. And that was well before CC's Premium Choice made it even MORE generic.

3) Loss of longtime staffers Chuck Collins, Lynn Kelly, Angela, Barbara Adams and Matt Patrick. You gotta give credit to Keith Kennedy for hanging in there after all of the changeover, but that airstaff was so closely identified with Akron. It would have been a tough act to follow for any of them, regardless of who was selected.

Could WKDD come back? Sure. Nothing says they can't. But they'd be wise to go back to their roots, and focus on Akron and Canton. (Which is what WDJQ HAS done, to considerable success.)

And with CC still owning the station, I'm not sure that will ever be possible.

Keith Kennedy is awful in the mornings. The rest of the day is a bland mess. The bland mess is actually an improvement.

I have actually chaned the radio in my office from KDD to WHOT, Youngstown as an improvement. Even with Rick Dees voice tracking the mid days it sounds much better than KDD.

Youngstown as an improvement, I got no words of wisdom.

What I didn't like when Keith Kennedy took over mornings in December 2009 was...

1. He signed on right after Matt Patrick signed off. Krissy Taylor could've done an hour solo playing music, and then the new team takes place the Monday after.

2. The intro with "over 300 people applied...including one from Dubai" followed by clips of the "shows" that applied. I'm guessing it wasn't exactly 300 people, and I doubt anyone was really interviewed for the morning show position. Still that intro to the unveiling of the new team was tacky and unprofessional.

3. The blandness of the Keith and Krissy team. They were OK, but KDD could've done better.

I wasn't too happy when they changed the lineup back in that same period, with no one brought in to host mornings and/or afternoons. Also, the branding of "Akron's Hit Music Station," even though KDD was far from CHR. That to me really ruined KDD. Glad they're using "90's, 2k and Today" instead.

What WKDD needs to do is be a Mainstream AC/Adult CHR hybrid since there's no Akron-based AC. WDOK is Cleveland-based and WHOF is Canton-based. WKDD really needs to step up their programming.
