Billy Charles and WLKE

Apparently the Clear Channel axe fell on long time WLKE (Lucky 99) morning man Billy Charles late last week. Billy had been the face and voice of Lucky 99 for almost 8 years, and was unceremoniously shown the door. All references to Billy on the website have been sanitized. He had been doing sales as well as his on air shift in Downeast Maine. Billy and his cast of characters will be missed. He was a true Downeaster!

Hate to hear about anybody getting the boot like that but I have to admit his wacky DJ bit got boring quick. I'm sure he will find something in the near future. Best of luck to him. Clear Channel.....showing more people the way out than Carlton the Doorman.

Wacky or not, he had quite a following in downeast Maine. Billy's a born showman, and a really nice guy. He'll land on his feet.

Maybe Billy's "sales numbers" weren't matching his on-air showmanship? Or management used this as an excuse to dump his show in favor of a 'less-expensive on-air personality?'

This is often the risk "a long-time jock'n'roller" faces when he or she attempts to 'segue into sales?' ::)
