Billy & Karla No More on The Big 98

According to All Access, Karla Lawson is the latest CC Nashville casualty. New Ops. Mgr. Michael Bryan wants someone who "has some real sass, spunk, and no qualms about giving BILLY some 's**ff' when they are on the air together."

Well in his defense, Rich had been just happy with the status quo it seemed. Look at how the River never changed.

With that said, I really hate to see Karla go because she's a really nice and talented lady. I really think this new OP's Manager is out to prove himself more than anything. I don't know if he's got any clue as to what he's doing or not. Don't know the man so I can't say one way or the other. Never the less, I don't think he's making any friends at his new job.

I personally think they fired the wrong person. Karla has tons of personality. Billy has a great voice. I imagine since Billy is the CC "premium choice voice tracker" that has secured his position for now. Frankly though, I doubt anyone is safe at CC Nashville. Sass....spunk... and expletive. Yep, sounds like a wonderful morning show to me. Any time you think, "I wish I was in management," just think, your days could be filled with ruining the lives of great individuals. That's a job I wouldn't want at any salary.

Nothing wrong with the status quo if it's working for you.

I'll try to say this without using my radio voice; Karla is a great friend (for over 10 years) and one heck of a talent. I'm damn proud to have worked with her. I can't wait to see what she does next...I know it'll be BIG.

An argument could be made that it wasn't working. That's another topic for another day. But let's just leave it at this, the River wasn't blazing any new trails, standing out amongst its peers, or doing anything new and cutting edge. Basically, it was just exsisting and the numbers pretty much reflected that. Like I said, another topic for another day.

On Karla, really a shame to see her go because she was such a nice person. I wish her nothing but the best.

I was Karla's PD when she was paired with Coyote McCloud on Rockin' Country 102.9. Always thought Karla did a great job, and I was glad to see her get the morning gig at 'SIX. Shame to see that happen. Lots of that going on right now...probably lots more to come.

I loved the pairing of Coyote and Karla. They were two very distinct personalities that strangely complimented each other. It would be interesting to do a list of Coyote's different broadcast partners over the years. Billy, I hope you're right that there is something big in Karla's future. I hope whatever direction they go, it turns out well for you. Between following Gerry, CC job cuts, and a new OM it seems you guys really weren't given a chance. It definitely wasn't time to pull the plug.

I would imagine probably, that the corporate suits and Cheap Channel will pay him a big bonus for saving the company money. All this while corporate radio cheapens the product, ruins lives and of course pockets obscene bonuses for themselves. Not rocket science to figure out why radio is becoming irrelevant. After nearly 30 years in this business, I got out except for doing some voice tracking on the side. Impossible to make a living anymore.

Coyote's broadcast partners I can recall:

WMAK: solo gig?

KX104...Buddy Sadler, Mary Glenn Lassiter, Jay Hasting, David Kennedy, Katie Haas, ...

Y-107...Rhett Walker, Diana Lynn, Marc Chase, ...

Power Country: Karla Lawson, ...

Oldies 96.3/97.1: Cathy Martindale, ...
