Biloxi's Rockin'... But Not Really

What happened? Was there a news conference demanding more Classic Rock than any other market in the world? Did I miss it? Because it seems to me that with WCPR's new groove, the Gulf Coast now has 3 Classic Rock stations.

Sure, they all vary in their interpretation of the genre, but were the 80's really that crucial to be so overheard on three presets? That's the connecting link. 105.9 has it's southern approach, Z aims in the direction of what most univeral Classic Rocks attempt, and now CPR is the hip and new version of the same format.

I understand a declining appeal in some of todays emo, alternative, punk, pop rock, hard rock, metal one "barely a hit" wonders, but it seems that CPR's Jay Taylor is intentionally burying the station on everyone's presets. What happened to CPR's attitude? Where's the humor, shock, and creativity? Noone's asking to have the wheel reinvented, but why the hell has the station turned around and run itself into the ground?

Ideally, one of the Classic Rocks should flip to a harder/Active Rock format, another to straight forward Alternative, and the last can stay. I don't care which one, but once the competition is gone, they can actually get back to playing CLASSIC ROCK without meandoring off course.

I'm up here in Hattiesburg, but I have good memories of Late 90's CPR... sad to see they've watered themselves down. I hear The End out of New Orleans is a much better station now... actually more ALTERNATIVE than the overdone, over aggressive, no-fun-at-all rock that has shifted so many alt-rock stations to "Active Rock".

In my perfect world... 95.3 would flip to an alt-rock/active rock hybrid and bring some competition to the crapbag of a station up here that some less educated people pass off as alternative. 95.3 has enough coverage to pull it off. I've never understood why they don't try to make themselves the "Hattiesburg to the Coast" station. Any input?
