Subject: Walk- Ups OK, and Final Update. Binghamton Broadcasters Reunion
Here is the last update concerning the Binghamton Broadcaster 2007 Reunion.
The party is this Saturday, October 20th at the Brothers Two Restaurant, located at 2901 Watson Blvd, in Endwell 13760. Driving instructions are at the end of this note.
The event is free, and open to all current, former or retired broadcasters and friends. Sales, programming, engineering and office and support staff are welcome.
We currently have 156 people who are planning to attend.
No reservations or commitments are needed for the party or the optional buffet. If your plans permit, feel free to join us.
If you can, drop an e-mail letting us know of your participation. If you are making last minute plans, simply show up.
For those that choose not to take part in the buffet, the regular Brothers Two Menu will be available.
There will also be a private cash bar in our banquet room.
We may need a person or two to help at the door for part of the evening, especially during the buffet time. If you or a spouse would like to volunteer, please e-mail
[email protected]
The Binghamton Broadcasters are anticipating the non-performing appearance of a national celebrity who will be putting on a show at another venue in Binghamton that night. That celebrity will be accepting an award from our group.
We haven't pinned down an exact time, but the "surprise" portion of the program will occur after the buffet, probably between 730 and 830pm. Please arrive early if you choose.
Also, during the course of the evening, the Southern Tier Broadcasters Association (which is different from our reunion group), in conjunction with the Bundy Arts and Victorian Museum in Binghamton will be announcing the first 20 inductees to the Binghamton Broadcasters Wall of Fame, which will be located at the Bundy Museum Annex.
Here's the official Schedule:
530pm: Doors Open
6pm: Optional Buffet (Details below)
7pm: Meet, greet and visit
830pm: Program and Awards
All times are approximate.
The buffet is optional, and is priced at $16.95 plus tax and tip, for a total of $20.50. You may pay at the door.
All that purchase the buffet will receive a free souvenir T-Shirt, from Jeff Olin and the Village Train and Hobby Shop in Windsor. Jeff will have other Binghamton Broadcaster apparel for sale as well.
Everyone who attend the reunion will receive the 2007 Souvenir CD will jingles, air-checks and other interesting material. A track listing follows this e-mail.
We will be giving away free a bonus audio CD consisting of three cuts from the Bob Huckabone Radio Theater. There are three locally produced radio dramas, including an except from Bob's latest audio production of Gunsmoke, starring John Leslie as Matt Dillon, and with a stellar supporting cast of Chris O'Connor as Miss Kitty, Steve Geimann as Chester, John Landry, Jim Matthews and Walt Adams.
We will be giving awards to outstanding broadcasters for 2007 as follows:
Broadcaster of the Year: Roger Neel (WBNF)
Special Achievement Award: Greg Catlin and Candace Chapman (WBNG)
Living Legend Award: Gino Ricciardelli of Channel 12 and Channel 40
Outstanding Person Award: Rita French (WENE)
We will also be acknowledging broadcasters who have passed away since our last event.
Chapter One (The Founding Chapter) of the Society of Broadcast Engineers will have a table, and they will be selling copies on CD of WKOP/WAAL Engineer Charlie Hallinan's scrapbook, which contained virtually every newspaper clipping about Binghamton Radio. Proceeds go to the SBE Scholarship Fund.
Scott Fybush of fybush.com and North East Radio watch will be in attendance, and he will have available his 2008 Tower Site Calendar for sale.
Veteran WNBF/WENE announcer Ted Baer along with his daughter Annie are planning to attend, and Ted has promised to provide entertainment and stories.
Ted joins Margaret Bryant, an engineer who went on to work at ABC in Dallas, along with Bill Parker, Hart Seely, Steve Resnick, Bernie Fionte, Hank Strong, Larry Hodge, WEBO's Frank Penny and Dave Radigan, Valerie Christian of WMRV and Legendary Gal Friday at WENE, Rita French.
A complete listing of attendees follows.
Paul Kaminski, of Motor Sports Radio, and a friend of the Binghamton Broadcasters has arranged for us to have some great items to give away to our award recipients from Audio-Technica.
Paul has gone beyond the call of duty, and we appreciate his efforts.
We want to thank those who have chosen to help with expenses for this year's party.
So far, they are:
Chapter 1 of the Society of Broadcaster Engineers (The Founding Chapter), based in Binghamton.
Scott Phillips, from Scott's Radio and Television Co, on Clinton Street in Binghamton. Scott's company sells and services Broadcast, Consumer and Vintage electronic equipment.
Bob Huckabone, from Huckabone Media Services, who is the founder and huge friend of the Binghamton Broadcasters Reunion
Jon Scaptura and his binghamtonradio.com website
Long time broadcaster and musician Doug Mosher, from Clear Channel, who simply wanted to help out.
Village Train and Hobby, Your Authorized Lionel train dealer, in Windsor.
Audio-Technica Corporation
Margaret Bryant of WAAL and ABC Radio
Here are the driving instructions to the Brothers Two Restaurant in Endwell, less than a mile from the Endicott exit of Route 17, on Watson Blvd in Endwell. It's easy to find, only one turn from Route 17. Dress is anything you want it to be. Most people will be casual.
Here's the simple route. Obviously, there are other ways to get to the restaurant.
The instructions are the same, whether you are coming from Route 17 East or West.
Take Route 17 to the Endicott exit. Circle around the off ramp and continue straight. Do not exit at Endwell. Proceed through two lights. Bear right just before the third light, which is Watson Blvd.
Continue on Watson Blvd about one mile. Brothers Two will be on your left. 2901 Watson Blvd, 607-785-5550. You'll find parking on both sides of the building, and in the lot across the street. Enter through the banquet doors, located in the rear. Our room will be the first on the left.
Here is alphabetized updated list of people planning to attend. If you're planning to attend, drop an e-mail to
[email protected] (No commitment required). We will update this list frequently on e-mails, and on the Binghamton Radio website,
www.binghamtonradio.com in the forums section.
If you are planning to attend with a spouse or significant other, please e-mail
[email protected]. If so, you should have the number "2" after your name.
The same if you're planning on participating in the optional buffet. If so, you should have the letter "B" after your name.
If your Binghamton station info is incorrect or incomplete, let us know.
Also, if you'd like the group to know what you're doing now, please let us know.
