BTVN is reporting that Josh Binswanger is now officially out at CBS4. His last day may be this coming Friday. According to the site, he was negotiated two years' severance pay. Apparently Jack Williams is back at 6 and 11, and the new team (including new Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow) debuts on January 9th.

Is anyone surprised? No offense, but I thought he would have been out a long time ago.

Williams is really the only star talent over at CBS4, and it's good to see him get 6 and 11. But on the other hand, putting Williams on the big shifts also shows that there's no one else to put on... with the departure of Binswanger, perhaps they're close to signing someone new.

It was all Josh's fault: not a bad guy.

williams is not going to stop the younger demos from fleeing
the late evening newscasts. wasn't that the reason why the old
regime at 4 replaced him with shortsleeve few years ago?!
it's a good pr move for 4, but the hard facts are that
only 1 out of 6 11pm news viewers in boston(4,5 and 7) is
under 35 years old. meanwhile, fox25's news at 10 attracts
over 30% of 18-34 demo and growing fast. jack may take some
viewers away from 5 or 7, but he's not going to bring
in any younger demos which advertisers are looking for.
this can't be an answer to 4's longterm plan.

This is true...10 o'clock will always be the foxy Maria Stephanos, hunky David Wade, and the adorable A.J. Burnett, or Kevin Lemanowicz (whichever is on, they're both nice eye candy) But gotta catch part of the re-run of N.E.S.T. when Butch is about to come on (ugh...)

RandySimon, I understand what you're saying, but don't understand you're position... Earlier in the fall, you seemed disappointed that CBS4 decided to keep Lisa and Josh in place... Now you don't seem excited that they have finally made the move. What do you propose they do? Hire someone new entirely, who can connect with younger viewers?

Ok CBS 4, Now do the Right thing, and call it "Eyewitness News..."

fnxfan, you're correct - i wasn't too thrilled that they stuck
with lisa+josh but but i also said that there wasn't much they could do
because they were stuck with josh for a couple more years.
the only big surprise, if the rumor is indeed true, that they're
buying him out. just shows you how desparate they're to get rid of
him and rebuild their product. i also said that it's not all
josh's fault - lisa is a vanilla acnhor who'll never be a name
here no matter how many different male co-anchors they pair her
up with - joe, jack, josh, next.

it's pretty clear that jack is a transitional band-aid anchor until they find a brand new ('younger') anchor team. don't be shocked if they snatch some of the fox25's news anchors?(bianca+dave? not a bad headline act).

CBS4 should put Ted Wayman with Sara Underwood to anchor 4 and 5:30. They also need to promote their talent much more.

Absolutely... CBS4 definitely should bring back Ted, and pair him up again with Sara... The two were a great team for "nightcast", and you can tell that they really enjoy working together... As much as they are trying to invest good talent in the UPN38 Morning Show, they should realize that it's never going to take off in the ratings, and they should use their strong talent (Ted) in a place where people are going to see him. Ted and Sara should be the "afternoon team", working at Noon, 4:00, 4:30, and 5:30...

But it won't happen... because it's not BZ's style... lol. I'm half expecting to see Ken MacLeod take over the early afternoon role... Talk about a snoozer.

"This Is 'WBZ/CBS-4 Eyewitness News At 6' with Jack Williams, weather with Ken Barlow, and sports with Bob Lobel. Now, Jack Williams...".

Might Lisa Hughes end up co-anchoring WBZ-4's Noon news and perhaps the 5-6 P.M. hour (when that begins next Monday, January 9th), and have Jack Williams "solo" (no co-anchor to share reading the news) at 6 and 11??
