Biondi and friends

Is dick Biondi still on 94.7? Or is 94.7 just the Sat feed of the true oldies channel from Scott Shannon?

Yes, Dick Biondi is on Monday through Friday from 7PM-11PM CDT. Scott Shannon is on from 10AM-3PM, as well as
overnights and most of the weekend.

True Oldies 94.7 is now live & local on Sat nites with the Saturday Night Dance Party with Danny Lake

While not "local", isn't JRL doing his "Into the 70's" syndicated show on 94.7?
I don't think that JRL's show is local, even though he has ads running with 94.7 Chicago in them. Here's the current line-up:

Monday thru Friday

6am to 10am: Brant Miller (Local)
10am to 3pm: Scott Shannon (Satellite)
3pm to 7pm: Greg Brown (Local)
7pm to 11pm: Dick Biondi (Local)
11pm to 6am: Scott Shannon (Satellite)

Saturday
6am to 7pm: Scott Shannon (Satellite)
7pm to Midnight: Danny Lake (Local: "Saturday Night Dance Party")
Midnight to 6am: Scott Shannon (Satellite)

Sunday
6am to 7pm: Scott Shannon (Satellite)
7pm to Midnight: John Records Landecker (Recorded in Chicago but is syndicated: "Into The 70s". He usually never mentions 94.7 or Chicago.)

Now, personally I HATE, HATE Scott Shannon and his satellite feed. Radio is meant to be local; that's what makes it personal. I think that 94.7 should add some more local personalities. Here's a list of who I'd like to see on the station (you can add your list or times):

1. Fred Winston: Still has it. Funniest person out there. When I met him in Nov. 2007, he was very humble, entertaining, and helpful. He sounded great on the BIG 89 REWIND.
2. Larry Lujack: At his NAB induction he said that he has one more gig left in him, and this would be the perfect place.
3. JRL: Expanded role.

That's just my opinion, though.

I can only listen on the net but I am going to listen to Biondi and JRL! We have the true oldies channel here on 106.1...Not impressive ;)

From September 2005, when True Oldies launched here in Chicago, to October 2006 when Landecker was hired, WZZN was a terrible oldies station. The WJMK jockless stream sounded better than WZZN! WJMK in my opinion is, and as it looks in the near future, was a better oldies station than WZZN. Once the local jocks were hired, the station has become a lot more listenable; just too many commercials though. We need to get Scott Shannon and his New York ego out of Chicago! JACK-FM, by decision of NYC bosses, ruined a great oldies station 3 years ago, and Scott Shannon isn't helping make WZZN a hit.

I agree 100% with the previous posters. Larry Lujack & Fred Winston should definitely be added to WZZN.
The Scott Shannon thing does not work in Chicago and is a big negative for the station.
I was very disappointed they didn't hire Winston for the morning gig after letting McKay go.

If they added Lujack with Tommy Edwards in the morning and Fred Winston in afternoons along with Dick Biondi
at night you've got a gangbuster station in my opinion.

There's no hope for 94.7 to add any of the market veterans they should. It is a Scott Shannon production and he wants it to only be about the music. That's really why they let go of Landecker, who was attracting good numbers talking about real life stuff and seeking to entertain in addition to the music. It's also why until very recently, Shannon was a part of every daypart. He then took the Chicago numbers to sell "his" True Oldies to other markets across the country based on what "he" did in Chicago.

Since Landecker, Greg Brown does nothing but talk about the music and the weather. Biondi is and always will be focused on the music anyway so no change there. (If you don't believe me - just listen closely to Greg for an hour. How many non-music or weather references do you hear??) But again, 7 PM to Midnight (with Biondi on until 11) technically shows up in the ratings as "Dick Biondi - Scott Shannon" so that Shannon can take Biondi's success and claim it to generate programming revenue from other markets.

Obviously, Lujack, Winston, and the others they should have on 94.7 wouldn't make an impression talking about "this song was number 1 for 3 weeks back in 1967" like Greg Brown now does.

The station bought Landecker's syndicated show just days before not renewing his contract, so now they can still use Landecker's name but actually don't pay him one red cent, as the program syndicator does.

I missed this, but a friend of mine told me that a couple weeks ago, Scott Shannon, who does some "Chicago only" voice tracking mid-days, was talking sports, and said "the White Sox host Cleveland tonight at Comiskey Park". This wasn't like the many Sox fans who continue to say Comiskey Park. He simply didn't have a clue that the naming rights were changed years ago.

There's nothing we can do other than get our oldies elsewhere, and with satellite and internet radio, it's easy to do.

Is there anyway 94.7 could break the ties with Shannon or is that simply not cost effective for them?
Afterall Shannon does not own WZZN.

I'm sure there is, but the legal process it too costly, especially in this cost-cutting age!

I agree about Greg Brown. I listen regularly to his show, and he has become the typical time and weather jock. On WJMK he was a lot more entertaining. I was excited to hear him on WZZN, but after a few weeks, he turned away from his previous style and more into the Scott Shannon business mold.

I liked Landecker, even though he could be a bit crude, but was always enjoyable! I went to a meeting in Nov. 2007 where he, Fred Winston, and NYC legend Dan Ingrahm were talking about their radio careers, and Landecker mentioned the syndication contract issue. He wasn't too pleased! I've got pictures with all three of them and autographs. They were very helpful for a teen in high school interested in Top 40 (now oldies) radio and looking to replace them one day! ;D

Scott Shannon not knowing about Comiskey Park being renamed 5 years ago just proves my point; Chicago radio should be controlled by Chicagoans, not out-of-towners!

:D Naming rights!

Standard Oil Building
Palmolive Building
Sears Tower
Carbon and Carbide Building
Marshall Fields
Field Museum
Comiskey Park
Miegs field (the airport mayor Daley destroyed one night)

I can't wait until someone tries to rename Wrigley field.

Hey! I got an idea! Tribune Company could sell the ball field to the JM Wrigley Co and they could call it Wrigley field!

Or, why didn't it get named Tribune field a long. long time ago? Because they had more sense back then.

I'll just continue to use "Comiskey Park" , or call it Telephone field.

I will never turn the computer off if they hire the right people..Landecker, Jeff Davis (Who already works for WLS-AM). Animal stories could be here again... ;D

So will it be Music Radio WLS Or
WLS FM The Rock Of Chicago
or both ;D

Are they contractually locked in to using the "True Oldies" for a defined length of time? I would hope not!
