I just picked up this week`s edition of the Reader, and in the Music section, I found an informative column on good ole` Dick Biondi. Let me offer the link:
http://www.chicagoreader.com/TheMeter/050617.html

If you don`t want to be bothered with clicking through, here`s a few of the highlights: The WJMK jocks are expected to return in their regular time slots beginning next week on the WJMK webstream. The HD broadcast should begin by the 4th of the July.

Biondi`s under contract to Infinity through 2008. I saved the best for last: Biondi premiered on Chicago radio in May 1960 when WLS, the former Prairie Farmer station, flipped to Top 40. At Biondi`s peak in early 1961, Biondi had a 56 SHARE in the Chicago Market! You read that right...56!

It's impossible to not like Dick Biondi. We are lucky to live near Chicago.

Hopefully HD catches on... It's going to take a long time if it does.
I hope that some day he makes the jump to Sirius so that the rest of the country can enjoy what we have for so long.

Wouldn't it be cool if they let the guys play any oldies they wanted in the stream and IBOC? We might have something really interesting to listen to! Since the audience will be small what have they got to lose? Let someone have FUN with it.

Just remember 50KW WKBW Buffalo had Biondi first!

I agree, that would be damn cool, but I don`t think INFINITY
sees it that way. With a format of "any oldies the jocks want,"
I might actually be compelled to buy an HD receiver.

Unfortunatly I think you're right. I'm very greatful that when I did the "After Hours" oldies show on 1110 WBT Charlotte I was able to live the dream. All the oldies at the station were mine to play as I wanted and the PD loved my energy and the way I mixed the music. It was the most fun I ever had but sadly the station went with Larry King overnight and I ended up a part timer. Lucky for me I had other ways to make money and still enjoyed my weekend radio fix.

I think letting the WJMK jocks play what they want would be the least they could do for the guys after shoving them off to the internet and IBOC sub channel.

I agree, Mike, it is a special talent. Just consider the amount
of material you have to work with if you concentrate on the golden
years, 1956-1975.

That was one of the reasons I always enjoyed the syndicated Greatest
Hits of Rock`n`Roll with Dick Bartley Sat. nights on ABC Radio.
Bartley knows his stuff and he always took time to insert a few
forgotten oldies in the mix. Locally, Mike Baker does a decent job
with the Forgotten Oldies Sat. nights at 6PM on WJJG(1530). The signal
has no processing whatsoever, so the music sounds a little flat, but
it`s cool, one night a week, to be able to switch between 1530 and
1690 and hear the oldies in AM mono. This can only be done in the
summer when the daytime stations broadcast `til nearly 9PM.
