Biondi Moonlighting?

I think I heard him doing announcing on a Polka show on the RFD channel. Since I used to live in Buffalo many years ago it was actually nice to hear a Polka again! I didn't listen for long so I didn't hear the announcer say his name but Biondi has a very distinctive voice and there are certain phrases that he uses. When I was very young Dick Biondi was the 7-mid jock on WKBW.

He, Biondi, deserved better than to be shoved to 11PM to 2AM shift at WLS FM, that station is in a slow free fall due to change of format.

How long will they allow this station to bleed? The station did well with True Oldies and the idea of having the BEST DJ's in the nation playing tunes of the 50's to early 70's was a brillant idea. However, Jan seems to hate oldies and wants more music and less talk so the ratings took a nose dive. You wonder were the rating would be if True Oldies were still the format and you had Fred in the morning, Brown Mid Days, Biondi in the evening and with the Friday All Request Show? If I was running that station I would bring back Ron Britain and let him go with his creativity. Play a different Silver Dollar Top 40 every afternoon from 3-7 PM. Bring back excitement and personality to radio. But than again What the heck do I know!

If they did that we'd have the slew of people on this board (you know who they are) telling us the same old stuff, "The demos are too old" What's wrong with you grandpa?"
So this way following Jeffries debacle WLS-FM is dying a not so slow death.

All this comes from a cultural lack of respect for senior adults. Keep Grandma in the closet. nobody wants to hear all her stories again. Old age for most of us is something we'd rather not face, it's not pretty.

The station was not doing well. It had declining revenue commensurate with the aging of the audience.

Major advertisers and their ad agencies do not buy audiences over 55, and WLS-FM was becoming a mostly-55 and over station.

The "idea" was only "brilliant" if you want to reach people in their 60's and 70's.

All this comes from a cultural lack of respect for senior adults.

In this particular case... the programming of WLS-FM... it has nothing to do with attitudes towards seniors.

The issue is that older consumers generally need more convincing to make a sale. That means, for radio advertising, more commercials at a greater cost. At some point, the return on investment becomes impractical for advertisers. That means, except for products specifically targeted at seniors, little ad money targeting 55+.
