Birmingham Mountain Radio coming to 107.3

lotsa smelly hippie music. boring jamband cuts.

And absolutely no reason not to put it on a 99-watt translator given the station's Internet following and Reg's popularity.

Way to go, Reg! It's been a dream for many former Live 100.5 listeners like myself to bring this format back to the Birmingham airwaves. The Birmingham News article states that 107.3 will be rebroadcast from WZNN HD2. Since 107.3 has been rebroadcasting WENN, what now becomes of 1320?

Pretty sure that WENN has been on 102.1 for years

"WENN" at 102.1 has actually been rebroadcasting WZNN HD2 (the channel from which 107.3 will now be originating). 1320 is actually licensed with the WENN calls. I am guessing then that WENN-AM will now be the originating station for 102.1 as it was previously?

I've been listening since they signed on and I haven't heard any "smelly hippie music" nor any "boring jamband cuts". It actually sounds pretty good and technically it sounds REALLY good so kudos to the engineers.

it was meant tongue in cheek. I have NEVER liked the kind of music reg plays so I don't listen to him and avoided the net radio like the plague. I did not like toad the wet sprocket in the 90s and fish, widespread panic, et al (jambands) sicken me.

hey, I hated the 70s & 80s too.

I tuned in today while driving through Birmingham...picked up the station outside Irondale and carried a static-free signal all the way to the Centreville exit on I-20/59. I agree that it's been technically well done. It sounds as if it's still taking the jocks some adjustment to being on FM radio; I heard more than one person say "we're streaming...er, broadcasting on 107.3" while on air today. But hey, that's a great adjustment to make and hopefully an inspiration to other Web-based broadcasters out there.

And this is irrelevant in the big scheme of things but the twentysomethings I associate with in the greater Birmingham area are talking this up on social media like nothing I've ever seen. Word of mouth may be their biggest marketing tool.

On the personal Facebook pages and Twitter accounts of my friends. Of course, my own network of friends in Birmingham is irrelevant to the city as a whole, but the fact that you have non-radio people talking it up online is more than can be said for any radio new Birmingham radio station in recent memory.

Listened some while passing through... It seemed very hip and fresh. Reminds me a lot of Lightning 100 in Nashville and Radio 105.7 in Atlanta.

It's refreshing that these translators are being used this way and are more interesting than nearly every full power station on the dial.

I listened to 3 translators while in range more than the other stations in town.
