How's that move to Hot AC on 97.3 working out for you, Summit? :)

Not really a surprise...although I didn't expect the new format to do as poorly as it has. Hot AC has never fared well here. Nothing's changed in that regard, it seems.

When a station has been entrenched in a format as long as 103-7 the Q has (40+ years), it's hard to make a dent against them. When a station has been entrenched in a format as long as Magic 96.5 has (nearly 34 years), it's hard to make a dent against them, too.

And before anyone says 103-7 the Q didn't move into Birmingham until '98, let's face it: it's been everyone's 2nd or 3rd choice for CHR in Birmingham since the late 70's, even though it was ostensibly a station targeting Gadsden and Anniston.

Wish you could lease 97.3 FM Pass and put your music program on there. It would be far more entertaining.

This is very true, although WEZZ did beat Magic a few times in the 12+ ratings in the station's early days (before WEZZ lost their minds and did the all-Christmas fare with WMJJ that year, losing a large chunk of their audience). It's the only time I can ever recall any Birmingham AC-ish station (whether it be mainstream AC, hot AC or soft AC) trumping WMJJ. However, any newcomer AC, Hot AC and CHR stations in Birmingham face an uphill battle in doing any serious damage to either WMJJ or WQEN.

RDP, I don't think my bank account will permit it. Let me check real quick...nah, I don't think I've got that kind of $. ;) but thanks for saying that anyway. :)

I've always held the firm belief that 97.3, with its weaker C2 signal, might fare better if it were sold to a nonprofit group, such as K-Love, and go noncommercial. The station has had how many formats in its 18 year history now? Too many to count. Maybe SummitMedia could do a "trade-a-roo"...sell 97.3 and purchase one of the class C FM's, similar to the EMF/Cumulus deal in Mobile involving WABD and WDLT.

That Mobile EMF deal wasn't bad at all. EMF sold (traded) the Mobile-Pensacola signal (97.5) to Cumulus and got a Mobile-Biloxi signal (98.3). Around the same time EMF purchased a Pensacola-Fort Walton station (WPLV 95.7), so for a national network they now city 4 rated markets instead of 2 or 3. This is the only combination of two FMs that can city grade all four cities.

Yes, 100% agree. Kind of surprising that Birmingham doesn't have a full-power K-LOVE affiliate at this point since Montgomery and Mobile do.

I know that iHeartMedia allows EMF to broadcast K-LOVE on that little 96.1 translator, but recently iHeart has made a push into the Christian Contemporary market with a new slate of stations branded "Up!" that seem to be popping up out west. I'm wondering if they'll put Up! on 96.1 at some point and let K-LOVE find a new home.
