The Birmingham Nielsen ratings for Birmingham were released today. The usual ones are at the top, of course...Kiss and Jamz, #1 and 2, respectively. WZZK and WDXB are both down, while Hot 107.7, "The Beat" (WMJJ HD-2), and the Vulcan (WQEN HD-2) were all up. Most everything else was was either slightly up or down...of no significance. The usual ones were at the bottom of list (WAPI-AM, WJQX (Jox 2/100.5 and WENN-AM, which now is "Y'all"). Sadly, Y'all's ratings continues to disappear into oblivion, since being relegated to the 102.1 translator. Many of their listeners are still unhappy about Y'all's new home at 102.1, with the greatly reduced signal. WYDE-FM is still hovering just below a 1.0 share; Crawford should put that station out of its misery...why do they even bother?? Most surprising was WEZZ (Easy 97.3's) performance, coming in at a 2.0 share, almost tying the station's 2.1 share it had when it was Y'all. It wasn't a big jump, but I honestly didn't expect the station to do that well. It's one of the WORST traditionally-based soft AC's I have ever heard. Multiple artists are missing entirely from their playlists, all of which are being aired on other traditional soft AC's across the country and online. There is no music post-1990 on their playlist, either. This format typically skews older, anyway, but with their playlist cut off around 1989, I imagine their audience is even older than the listeners of WDUV in Tampa, Miami's WFEZ, and other similarly-formatted stations. I posted several times on the station's Facebook page concerning the large swath of missing artists from their playlist, but evidently my comments weren't welcome (because they were of a negative nature??); they were deleted within a matter of hours. I'd like to listen to the station and support it, but given their interpretation of the format (and how poorly Summit Media handled my comments on their Facebook page), I won't. I imagine once the newness of the station wears off and the "honeymoon is over" with the Easy 97.3 listeners, many of them will be jumping ship back to Magic 96.5. Anyway, that is my take on the latest Birmingham ratings, and my rant about WEZZ, lol.

btw, it's good to be back on RadioDiscussions.com. Let's hope the board hangs around for a while and we don't find ourselves "board- less" ever again.
