Birmingham radio ratings - Winter 12

Looks as though the "Eagle" has taken off and is soaring high, after WZRR dropped classic rock back in January. It is now placing #5 in the 12+ numbers. WZRR remains about the same as before, though...slightly downward.

Could the "Zone" be in play for a format change? I'm not sure if the numbers that are showing are correct, given Arbitron's new subscriber-only policy that eliminates all non-subscribing stations from the rankings, but WZNN is listed with a dismal 0.6 share. That is worse than WYDE...if that's possible.

Here's the link to the Birmingham ratings page:

Hmmm...must be an error as to why WAPI-FM is not listed, since all the other Cumulus stations are there. The only way it could not be an error is if WAPI-FM had less than a 0.1 share...100.5's ratings aren't all that great, but they're not that bad... :D

I still believe Cumulus would have fared better placing the WAPI-FM talk format on 99.5 instead of going on 100.5 with the weaker signal. WZRR isn't doing all that great with CHR, but to be fair, it's only been 3 months since the format change. I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility for that to occur at some point (Cumulus moving WAPI-FM to 99.5). They have already scrapped music formats on their FM outlets in the past...most notably this week in Pensacola with WJLQ's format change to talk WCOA-FM.

Instead of changing formats, it looks as if they're blowing up the station and starting from scratch.

At the rate they're going, this station's current format may be going down as one of the worst stations in Birmingham radio history---right up there with Real Country 106.9, The New 94-5 FM, etc. (For once I won't pick on WYDE).

As you pointed out, the new "subscriber only policy" provides what most of us already knew. The rating system is neither accurate nor transparent, and money can buy happiness in radio ratings.

With regard to WZRR, the obvious conclusion is again what most of us knew, the decision to include the "Mojo Morning Show" was one of the worst decisions on record. Hopefully, the decision maker has made a career change. Used car sales might be a good option.

It's interesting to note WMJJ continues to flounder while they seek an identity. Perhaps the "Babyblog" and a new child named "Katybug" can save the day (not). Since they have obviously attempted to copy a competitor's format and style, perhaps there is some recognition of the myriad of issues for this station.
