Birmingham Subchannel Shuffle

WVUA 23-2 is now Light TV (was SD feed of main channel)

WTTO 21-4 is now TBD TV (replaces get TV)

WBMA-LP 58-4 is now Charge! TV (new subchannel)

Wow, all of the shuffles were on -.4 channels, ha ha. getTV wasted no time moving to another slot, did they? They seem to be one of the better digital OTA networks as far as aggressively trying to get on in each market.

TBD was added to WEAR down here on the coast a few weeks ago, or a month ago, maybe? It's… Well, it's certainly a channel that exists. I can't imagine it surviving more than nine months. It displaced TCN down here, too, which probably ticked off a local restaurant owner, whose TVs were ALWAYS tuned to TCN every time I ate at one of their locations. Now they use the cable music-only country channels instead.

I guess Sinclair must ink system-wide agreements with these subchannel outlets, because TBD is here, Charge! is here, getTV is here, Comet is here, and Grit is here, and I think all but getTV now are also on the Sinclair stations in B'ham.

(I tried to post this on the 9th but the site was down all day.)

A channel devoted to short-form video clips - music or found on the internet - sounds like the perfect idea!...If it ever becomes 1983 again, that is.

All of the WUOA subchannels have problems with pixelation and freezing. I've checked it on two TVs, both with very strong signals and adjusted the antenna as well. The short pre-recorded TOH ID they air has always had pixelation even before the problems manifested during programming.

Now, as of November 2017, WIAT-42.2 drops Untamed Sports for Escape and adds Laff on 42.4

So right now, Escape is being seen on both 42.2 AND 46.3 and Laff is being seen both 42.4 AND 46.2. I'd assume that this arrangel

Down here on the coast, we have Laff and Grit on two channels each, and it's been that way for over a month. Both are full power, full market signals, too.
Interesting. By the way, Laff is on 46.1 not .2. My mistake.

The pixelation and other video problems continue on all the WUOA subchannels. I've even e-mailed them about it and they said they would look into it. Meanwhile Charter-Spectrum has 42.2's new Escape feed, but still shows the Untamed Sports listings and programs in their on-screen guide. Plus the channel has no audio on cable but comes in just fine OTA.

Oh, and one last subchannel change: WBXA-CD 24.3 is now OnTV4U, which is some sort of all-infomercial network. Oddly, the top-of-the-hour ID shows "KBXA-CD"

Reviving this topic because I've noticed that WBRC 6.4 is now Laff. So that means that Laff is on three Birmingham subchannels with the same programming joining WUOA-46.1 and WIAT-42.4.

Katz is clearly willing to pay for the duplication, probably to prevent competitors from using those spaces. And from the stations' perspective, as long as the check clears, why argue?
