Birmingham's Smooth Jazz

I have been noticing WVSU, Birmingham's Smooth Jazz have been playing a little more R&B songs and pop covers lately. They have been one of my favorite stations to listen to, but I am worry about them. With all that is going on, they could go away at anytime to. I hope not though.

Was reading their facebook page ...

WVSU - Birmingham's Smooth Jazz Next week, introducing music from Kristine W, The Uptown Band, and some chick named Chaka Khan.
Let me rock ya!

WVSU - Birmingham's Smooth Jazz I'm really jazzed (gosh I'm clever) about the new music additions for next week: the re-imagineering of "Imagine" by Herbie Hancock, with help from Seal, PINK, India.Arie and Marcus Miller...Bob Baldwin's take on "Bad"...new Tim Bowman...and Tom Braxton's "Open Road."
Who's bad?!

I know nothing but I find it hard to believe VSU is going away. A non comm that does a nice job that I have caught on my way to the beach. What they are promoting as upcoming airplay is the music that is being peddled to contemporary jazz radio. I have received everything that is mentioned in the first quote and the Herbie cd is the only one making the cut for me. There is more new "instrumental" music out right now then I have time to play. I have not seen it this good in 4 years.

Near Birmingham here, I listen to WVSU quite a bit in the car, although the signal has usually disappeared by the time I make it home (I'm 35 miles south of downtown Bham). I've heard WVSU's "tweaking" as of late...one day I was listening they were offering a lot more vocals than usual, which I didn't care for too much. It seems any type of music changes they employ is cyclical....after a while the station eventually returns to the usual sound.

I don't think WVSU is going anywhere, either. Many years ago, Samford University had considered dropping the smooth jazz for contemporary christian programming. That didn't go over too well with listeners, to say the least. The format stayed in place, and I'm hoping it'll be around for a long time.

Thanks guys for the information. :) WVSU does a great job there in Birmingham, nice to see that have a good backing of fans/listeners there.
