Bismarck, ND (January 7, 1978)

from Bismarck Tribune via newspapers.com

2 WTCN Minneapolis
3 KTHI Fargo/KHSD Lead/Deadwood
4 KFME Fargo/KDIX Dickinson
6 WDAY Fargo
7 KFYR Bismarck
11 KXMB Bismarck

I find it odd that WDAY (NBC) had full-time cable carriage and not KTHI, as Bismarck already had a primary NBC affiliate but no primary ABC affiliate (unless KFYR was flirting heavily with ABC at this time)

I've looked at these listings myself, multiple times and multiple dates, and I believe some of the channel listings had to be misprints. I don't think they actually did double up on channels but the paper printed it that way. Certainly can't prove it without further research, but it would make no sense to have these channels share time when slots were open. Especially KFME and KDIX. I think I found a time period beyond this where it was corrected but not sure how far forward in time that was.

I should mention that it was not KFYR but KXMB that carried part of the ABC lineup. Monday Night Football, ABC Tuesdays when it got really popular, etc. In Dickinson, ND, when ABC was carried locally, then they switched KTHI to KXJB so you could get the CBS programming. I would think they did that here too.

I found what I thought I had seen, on Dec 9 1978 it was finally corrected
