Biz Radio 1110 KTEK

Can anyone tell me when this is supposed to transpire? I'd like to tape the sign-on. I have heard Feb. 1 and Feb. 15th. Also please confirm sign-on times for whichever date is correct since KTEK is a daytimer. Thanks. pd.

pd, I'm still hearing February 1 for the switch to Biz Radio even if the actual change in ownership hasn't occurred by that time; I actually expect the FCC to give their approval for the sale fairly soon. KTEK's sign-on time, currently at 7:15, moves back to 7:00 for the month of February.

Thank you for the information, jd. I knew I could count on you.

There is an LMA in place in which Biz Radio will take over in February, until the sale is complete. The 1st falls on a Friday. Our last day is supposed to be January 31st, notwithstanding any last minutes technical changes. Some of the KTEK Christian programming will move over to 100.7 KKHT. I have promos airing on KTEK announcing the move of some of those programs to KKHT, while advising the KTEK listeners of the impending format change. During that last week, as a courtesy, we will air promos for the new format.

I have not listened to BizRadio in over a year. Why are they moving to a new signal? What is happening with 1320?

Thanks to you as well, Chuck. I simply forgot that you oversee KTEK as well. Airwave, the announcement concerning KTEK recent sale to Biz Radio was publicized about a month ago. They are moving to Alvin's 1110 so that they will be on the air with a station that they own as opposed to leasing time from Multicultural Broadcasting who owns KXYZ. I figure that KXYZ will return to brokered ethnic programming much like it was before Biz Radio came along. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, I guess, but it would seem the most logical.

Thanks for the info PD. I haven't really been in touch with this board or the industry recently so forgive my lack of knowledge. I thought Bizradio got awfully stale with program changes and more emphasis on stock quotes. It just became flat out boring and I quit listening. It's hard to believe they would give up such a good signal for a low powered daytimer. I can't imagine they will hold much of their current audience when they switch. What a shame. At one time the station was very informative and had interesting programming that kept you there. Oh well, maybe some other attempt at the business format will succeed some other time on another station.

KTEK has an incredible signal over Houston, thank you, during the hours that are the most important to BizRadio. That is the main reason that Salem was able to get as much as they did for the station. I think that, on most radios, the signal will be just as good on 1110 as it is on 1320.

1320 could have an impressive signal over Houston if the transmitter site/antenna system had been maintained properly over the last 25 years.

airwave, the only bad question is the one left unasked. There might be some issues with the KTEK signal but it covers Houston pretty well, the difference is like I stated above, they will OWN this one, unlike leasing from MRBI. Snooping around, I see no real reason that KTEK's coverage couldn't be improved and upgraded if they chose that route. Closest protected station to KTEK is KTTP/Pineville, La. which also is a daytimer. Whatever happens they had better hurry if they want to act. At some point in the near future KJSA/Mineral Wells is suppose to file for an upgrade to 20kw directional, if it hasn't happened already.

I wouldn't say KTEK's signal is incredible, but definitely listenable. Andy, what about the winter months where Biz Radio 1110 will have to sign off during PM drive? That's a problem they don't currently have with KXYZ. I would think those business tycoons driving home at night turning to the new 1110 would be the "most important to Biz Radio". Any plans to add nighttime coverage on the horizon for KTEK?

I guess they can fix it, but they need to work on the programming and content. I can't listen very long without dozing off.

"Drive" times are a concern...no doubt about it.

An upgrade of some type may occur down the road. Between this move, an upcoming move in Dallas, a temporary studio build-out at their offices, a permanent studio location build-out in the vicinity of Westheimer and the Beltway and exploring additional markets...they have their hands full.

I hope Frishberg saves some money to run his station because he can't rely on advertisers after the switch. Other than the few hundred, more or less, loyal listeners that will know when the switch occurs Biz Radio will literally start over again from scratch with no audience.

I also agree with Airwave regarding the programming. It has become stale and boring. The other question: Why are they still promoting the signal on 1320 via billboards (their money fair) and the skyplane ad? As I posted when the announcement was made, they should be doing everything to promote the switch to 1110 every waking moment.

Yeah, Frishberg is most definitely the finest, smartest and wealthiest marketing expert ever to walk the face of the earth as he so professes to everyone he meets.

I've got an idea. Let's discuss something less significant like....well...., never mind.

I actually heard Brent Clanton mention the signal change this morning. Just some advice: push the change, but quit talking about the vast Biz Radio network of stations. There are only 2 and Dallas, from what I hear, is on life support.

Listened to 1110 the other day and the signal is very strong when it's on during the day. I hope they can get night time licensing soon so they don't have to sign off at 5 or 530 during the winter.

Like I've said before I have some thoughts, make that a definitive plan, on that particular subject. Even if the BizRadio folks took me up on it today, or course, it would still take quite a while before it actually became a reality. The upgrade plan is technically sound and would provide meaningful market coverage for KTEK 24/7, unlike a proposal from back in '04 that Salem decided not to follow through on. In other words it's not a 100-watt Band-Aid like 1560 currently has on the air.
