BizRadio already testing on KJSA 1110

Apparently began this weekend, with a co-station ID of KMNY/KJSA. May 15 is a "possible" target date to make the move permanent.

I didn't catch the complete ID, but shouldn't it be something like, "BizRadio 1110...KJSA...Alvord/Mineral Wells/Chico/Runaway Bay/Fort Worth"? ;D

KJSA isn't changing city of license as part of the upgrade...it will still be licensed to Mineral Wells when it goes to 1110. So, the legal ID should be "KJSA Mineral Wells/..."

Er, Chip...it was a joke. Sorta.

I've always made fun of rimshots...so many will try to cram that "undesirable" or unintended city deep within their station ID...hence "Kiss FM--KHKS-Denton-Dallas-Fort Worth." Others, like my old station KDNT, will work in all the communities within a 50-mile radius..."AM 1440, KDNT--Denton-Lewisville-Pilot Point" (or substitute Pilot Point for McKinney, Krum, Springtown, Frisco, Little Elm, Sanger, and -yikes!- Dallas. There must have been 30 different ones on a single cart.)

With credit given to Alan Balthrop of the late Radio Digest, who did a stellar job of poking fun at those hidden city of licenses!!

Sad, very sad...to deny their roots as the Cheese Capital of Texas. ;D

So, I know this has been mentioned, but I'll ask again: What happens to the 1120 frequency when KJSA moves to 1110?

Jay :-\

Far as I know, they would relinquish the frequency to the FCC and the old license would be canceled, much like when 1150 moved to 1160. 1120 would be useless to anyone around here, anyway, as it'd be a first adjacent to 1110.

KJSA moves from 1120 to 1110 and upgrades. KEOR in Atoka, OK moves from 1110 to 1120 and becomes a Tulsa area station. So, it's basically a frequency swap with two upgrades.

AAAAHHHHH....I didn't know another station was involved. Bet there was some $$$ changing hands over that!

Is KJSA running the new high power rig? (I'm in Houston where it would be blocked by local KTEK.) If so, they did a pretty good job of getting it built and on the air. Many stations take forever to implement upgrades.

Combining KJSA/Mineral Wells and KTEK/Alvin, both at 1110 AM gives Biz Radio a signal roughly from The Red River to The Gulf. Now THAT's a Biz Radio Network. Nice job, Brent! Looking at the coverage maps, there looks to be a little dead space between the 2 1110's around Bryan/College Station. Other than that, what an amazing amount of real estate that Biz Radio will cover.

I think I read at one time that Biz Radio was moving studios to downtown Fort Worth. Is that still the plan? Maybe that is the Revolution that arrives at midnight... ;D

Wow, at first I was very worried about this, as I live in Wichita Falls and the 1360 signal comes in surprisingly well. But the new daytime KJSA 1110 map on the fcc site shows that I should get 1110 even much better -- we're even in the "local" area by their projection.

From what I can find, the tower is near Alvord on highway 287? And the higher-power transmitter is already up?

If so, that's great news for me and I thank Bizradio for the switch!

That just doesn't seem like enough money. Suppose BizRadio bought 1120 as-is, and worked out the swap with 1110 in Tulsa separately and after the fact? Somewhere in there, that Tulsa station had to be paid something fair to dilute their coverage to nothing...and with the new KJSA 1110 pumping out 20,000 watts directly over DFW...$7.5m is enough? Is that the whole story? Or was M&M doing the 1120/1110 swap before BizRadio came along? Inquiring minds want to know. :-\

Yes, M&M owned KEOR 1110 in Atoka and engineered the move of that station to 1120 in Catoosa (suburban Tulsa). Sure, they reduced power but in population coverage it sure beats what they had.

You may recall that at one time M&M proposed moving KCLE Cleburne from 1140 to 1110 (with the higher power that KJSA now has) and moving KJSA completely out of the picture to suburban Minneapolis (yes, Minnesota). Fortunately that idea was nixed and KJSA became the station that got the big upgrade without moving their community of license, and KCLE got a healthy daytime increase to 5,000 watts while remaining at 1140. In the early stages I wasn't sure all this would get approved but now three stations have seen significant upgrades in coverage.

And I'd say the price for KJSA is about right; unless something drastic were to happen it'll always be a daytimer. KFAB Omaha owns 1110 here at night, and they're not the only one to consider. As a point of reference KVCE 1160, which has some semblance of nighttime coverage in Dallas, went for about $9.25 million.

Now you understand some of my undue interest in this swap!! :-\

Honestly, I don't know...we'll be staying at 1360 and definitely not moving to 1110, although we might actually be on 1110 for the next couple of Sundays while KJSA is simulcasting KMNY during testing. Beyond that, when BizRadio leaves 1360 for good, so goes the streaming. I'm working on another option for that right now. We'll cover some of that ground on this week's Hi-Fi Club.

At the moment, it looks like there may be a big void at KMNY days for a while...and if that's the case, Hi-Fi might have some pretty exciting news. Right now, it all depends on whether BizRadio is ready to move on the 15th, and if MRBI already has another commitment lined up for daytime, or if the progressive talker that leases the nighttime hours will opt to lease days as well. LOTS of variables...
