BJ moving to XM radio?

J

Guest
On 7-21-05 about an hour into Opie and Anthony's show, they were hinting at a couple of their friend DJs that are going to be appearing on XM soon. On the list was Ron and Fez from N.Y. and B.J Shea "from Seattle". Discuss.

I don't think this indicates that BJ is going anywhere. Didn't he just resign with 100.7? I am not a radio person, but I cannot see why a broadcaster could not be on a local or national syndicate, and SM or Sirius. Clearly with Howard Stern's deal, exclusivity with Sirius is an expectation, but perhaps XM could counter with access to shows in a number of city markets? Of course the internet is already making that possible.

Well BJ mentioned this on his show and he said he had a multi-year deal and unless something happened that he was pretty much locked in where he was.

He did joke though that if they offered him enough money he would jump ship, and I imagine that would be code for get myself fired.

There are still lots of pending legal issues yet to be resolved at KQBZ. Clearly Entercom is backing BJ's horse or they would not have signed him to a multi-year deal, but many things can happen between now and 2006 when this case is scheduled to go to court and who knows in the end maybe Entercom cans the guy if this all doesn't get resolved how they anticipate it will?

That would be a big mistake for BJ. Why would I want to listen to a wanna-be Leykis that is a third rate version of O & A when I could listen to the real deal? I doubt any of BJ's listeners would fork over the subscription fee if he went to XM. BJ's a big man in a very little pond (middays)--his listeners have no other options during that time slot other than him. If he does attemp mornings he'll realize that now he'll actually have to compete against solid shows that share his fan base. I honestly doubt that he'll do well in mornings when that time comes for him--unless he surrounds himself with actual talent.

I realize the mistake in my message: I meant 'Re-sign' not "Resign'. Slight difference in meaning. More amazing predictions coming.

PEACE OUT!

There are several shows simulcast on XM as well as terrestrial radio, Coast to Coast, Phil Hendrie, John and Jeff, ect. I'm not sure what legal issues it would take for BJ to be on both, but I for one would love to see it. It would open him up to a national audience and keep him free in Seattle, for all you cheapskates. As for anyone not listing to satellite radio yet, WAKE UP! Its MORE than worth the $12 a month!

Well said.

I doubt any of BJ's listeners could even afford the monthly fee. Most of them eagerly await the listener parties so they can take advantage of the free things handed out.

First of all... I really doubt that he's going to XM. My son has XM so he can liosten to O&A, he said he heard them talking about Ron & Fez going to XM, but heard no mention of this BJ rumor, and I have never heard that BJ is friends with either Opie or Anthony.

Secondly... if XM did sign BJ it would not be with the hope that all of his fans would sign up. XM and Sirius both have "low Level" talent like BJ just to fill out there line-ups and offer something different to all the O&A fans. You don't really think that Ron & Fez, John & Jeff, or Phil Hendrie got added so that "all" there fans would sign up as well? They just want as many different shows as they can get, and who can blame them?

Thridly... satelite radio is worth more than 12 bucks a month and I salute them for trying to start a new industry for all of us.

John & Jeff? Is that the god awful show on the Buzz after the "mens room?"
That is the worst show I have ever heard!
Opie worked for BJ when BJ hosted a morning show on the east coast a long time ago. BJ bragged about that during the Sex in a church controversy.
Interesting point about the "low level" talent pool--BJ would fit right in under those circumstances.

BJ and Opie are not nessessarily friends, but I recall BJ mentioning several times that Opie started out as an intern on a station that BJ worked at in Boston several years ago. BJ even had Opie on his show(via telephone) a couple of years ago. It was the same day that the O&A show was supposed to have premiered on The Buzz. Unfortunately, whoever was in charge of recording the show apparently forgot to record the live feed. Yes, there is a conncetion between BJ and O&A.
