BJ105 airchecks 1986-89

Even a lowly former part-timer like me has some old cassettes stashed away. Rick Stone always took care of me on the weekend schedule. Good times back then, thanks for the memories....

Rick Stone. I remember that guy. Very cool. :)

Rick got Stoned? 14k in Gainesville, another great Central/North Florida AM back in the day....

If you remember 14K, then you probably remember Shawn Smith who's on-air delivery was almost a whisper. I worked with Shawn briefly at Ocala's WMFQ before Shawn got the program director's job at beautiful music formatted WAKA 1390. Shawn transformed WAKA into adult hits 14K, patterned much after Ocala's WWKE "Key Radio" which happened to be the sister AM station to WMFQ. This would have taken place sometime in 1978. After Shawn left WAKA, the station was sold and a new PD was hired, taking 14K into a CHR/New Wave direction which would have taken place around 1980. I believe the New Wave PD may have been Jeri Banta who I worked with at WGGG. Jeri later became the PD at WYKS "Kiss 105" Gainesville. There are so many memories from those days.

So, yes, I agree that 14K was a great little 5kw radio station back in the day.

Worked for Jeri Banta at Kiss 105 in Gainesville. Super guy, he's at Fox 51 now. Long live one of the "first non CC" Kiss stations. Kiss 105.5 back in the day.

The PD before Jeri at WYKS-Kiss 105.5 Gainesville was Lou Patrick. Use to clobber WRUF (Rock 104) in the Arbitrons. All this before the lame KTK came along.....

I know Lou Patrick from his WTMC-AM Ocala days, prior to Lou joining Kiss 105. Lou was the PD at WTMC before I assummed the PD role there. Lou is a great guy...

I you knew Lou, then you may remember our Prod. Director, Kurt. And the GM was a cool guy too, Darwin Paustian. Kiss 105 probably sounded better than most major market CHR's back in the day.

Any Rick Stone sightings? Let's bring back a reunion weekend at 105.1!!! John, we can fly you back to O-Town.

I don't know Kurt, but I know Darwin... I met with Darwin a few times about coming over to Magic 1390. Darwin was looking into taking 1390 in another direction at the time. My actual title, had I come over, had not been clearly defined, but I would have been in programming/operations/sales on the AM side, possibly as a consultant.

It's a good thing that "Rock Me, Jerry Lewis" from "Rock Me Amadeus" is there. It's too bad you won't parody recordings like that any more.

Mix 105.1 did that with Scott and Erica they parodied popular songs

I'm ready, baby!! I'm sure someone has those old sonovox numbers for the Top 8 At 8! (lol)...

i used to have a recording of you doing a lost 70s song intro you played on wmmo mid 1990s. Sunday in Salem by Gene Cotton......been trying to find that song for my i-pod for years.
