Black Dahlia-1947 Radio Newscast Needed

Hello Everyone,

I'm from Kurtis Productions and we're producing a documentary on the unsolved, 1947 murder of the Black Dahlia (aka Elizabeth Short) for the A&E Network.

The case is out of Los Angeles and I'm looking for a tape/copy of an old radio news program/bulletin that mentions the details of the crime and the finding of her body on Jan. 15, 1947. It wasn't until late the next day, Jan. 16, that she was identified and I'm also looking for any newscast w/ that mention.

Can you please contact me via email if you have any information as to where I can find such recordings or if you have copies yourself? Also, we can further discuss the details. I'm looking to get a recording as soon as possible.

I can be reached at: [email protected]

Thank you.

No se existe.

Radio newscasts were ephemeral things.

Scripts were kept, but tapes were barely coming into use in 1947.

Recordings of 1947 radio shows were made on long-playing 78s for transcription purposes - mostly for Amrned Forces Radio.

Newscasts were kept in paper form only. Those archives may have been donated to a library. But airchecks? Nope.

Check with the Museum of Broadcasting in BH.

Also check with the UCLA Library. The Riordan Library downtown may have some leads too.

You should also note that radio newscasts in 1947 were very different than what we have grown up with. Most were 15 minutes long and very boring - no field reports or anything like that.
