Reports are coming in from around the country of massive firings at Clear Channel. In my market we've lost 5 so far with rumors of more before the end of the day. Same thing 70 miles down the highway in a 100+ market (that will remain part of CC). Talent, production, accounting, Skywatch Traffic, promotions....and I thought we were running on fumes as it was....very sad...some of these people had been with the company 20+ yrs.

Any word on the Dallas office? Hope all is well for those people...

I'l bet there'll be a big Thanksgiving feast at the Mays' household

I find it difficult to have any empathy for corporate weasels who have benefited from consolidation at the expense of programming, on-air talent, local markets, news and information. But you can bet that only the little weasels will be made to suffer. So the hump in account and the nice promotion lade get the ax while vice presidents and the like will live long and prosper at Clear Channel.

Its the Lowry's way of saying Season's Greetings. This year instead of CUTs before Christmas, they avoided the rush and did it before Thanksgiving. As one called it a few months ago at Univision, "Colateral damage". Some will clamor its good business. Those same folks do not have compassion or a streak of humanity left. Next up Citadel and Cumeless.

"Lowry" is the senior Mays' FIRST name. Fore a self-purported expert, you don't even know the basics.

The Lowrry's my donkey!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the number after the word Market.... isn't the market number the last number?

Actually, his first name is Lester, but he hates to be called that.
BTW- Did you see where Mr. Mays and his boys have agreed to give up their golden parachutes (make that diamond encrusted platnum parachutes!) They agree that this buyout is not a sale that would trigger them; and they agree that if there is a sale, the severance package their board gave them will not go into effect.
That golden parachute, those hand-picked board members, those two sons in key positions... all hurt the CCU stock price as much as anything. The Mays's don't own a very large chunk now, nowhere near a controlling stake, but they have always run the company like it was their own. Check the filings and see how many millions in stock they have awarded themselves, and how many millions in stock they have cashed in, as they littered the unemployment lines with cast-off employees...
No I'm not bitter... just sayin...

I didn't know that. I think I would use "Lowry" too...

Actually, what was reported was that they reduced the parachutes by about half, so they only get a couple of hundred million. It was said necessary to get the deal done.

I am trying to visualize what I would do with $200 million or so... I know I could finally get that LCD TV I want, of course.

That pay was not unreasonble for the size business CCU is. It's just that many of us know how the hot dog is made, and don't like it.

They must be moving from west to east, about 2 weeks ago the fired 15 people is San Francisco...One of the Traffic Folks was fired by voice mail while she was on Jury Duty.

BTW, the trades reported yesterday that none of the top Managment of CC would be
changing due to the sale. And that Lowery and Mark would be there to make the transition a smoth one. How Lucky for the soon to be former CC employees.

All the poor slobs who were let go just in time for Christmas.....goes well with their Christmas music, doesn't it? What a wonderful service Clear Channel has done for the radio industry. Makes you want to barff.

Try to focus instead of "narrow focus" as you commonly do so well. I was speaking of "Lowry's Method" His state of mind, etc. Man are you retentive or what? Denial of the Univision cut backs(forthcoming ) is not a very nice Christmas present to its employees or as you would say "collateral employees" Man what a prevaracator you have become. "Lowry's your Donkey"? You're broadcasting's "burro".

Lowry's your donkey? Then Bob's your uncle.
God is my co-pilot, and my boss is a jewish carpenter.
It is tragic what Gringo said, in terms of the rape of american capitalism, that the outrageous salaries, perks and severance packages the Mays arranged for themselves are just typical of what the executive class is doing, all across the board. The workers have improved productivity and seen stagnant wages, while the top tier not only get the benefit, they've gotten lower tax rates (and no 'payroll taxes' past the first 90 k or so). "Yes", David will say, "but health insurance costs more..." which is why so many of us have part time jobs, with no benefits. And when you count in the Employment tax, my tax rate is about TWICE what Lester and the boys will pay when they cash out.
And I must confess, I am bitter. I could go on for hours about lies I have personally been told by the Mays, and the outright contempt Lester has shown the people who are the most devoted to creating the wealth that he enjoys so much.

I noticed they're shedding their stations in the booming hotbed of Ogallala, Nebraska. Wasn't KOGA more or less used as window dressing for the rathole that is Ogallala and also a beta test bed for the NexGen system?

As I said, there were no cuts at Univsion a few months ago... you are making these things up.

Otherwise, you genius, cite the Inside Radio or RBR or All Access or R&R editions that reported on such, "a few months ago" as you said.

Univision just had its best quarter ever.

Most CEOs make vastly less than a basketball player or a football player. In case you did not see the USA Today on Friday, something like 150 conference coaches make over $1,000,000 a year! A CEO is responsible for the investment in a company, the employees, the future of the company and should be awarded at least what the coach of the Crimson Tide makes.

The workers have improved productivity and seen stagnant wages, while the top tier not only get the benefit, they've gotten lower tax rates (and no 'payroll taxes' past the first 90 k or so).

Another person who has never run a business, I see.

There are payroll taxes on 100% of earned income, and they go UP the higher the income is. In some states, incremental income above a certain amount is taxed at over 50% of every earned dollar.

What is only "taxed" up to the first $90 k is FICA qualifying income. FICA is Social Security, in case you did not know. Social Security is an entitlment, not a tax. You contribute, and the employer contributes a similar (but higher) amount, and this goes to give eash employee, based on years worked and income in the last years of employment, a retirement check each monty from the SSA. The payments max out, and a person with higher total income gets no more than a person with lesser income. It is, in other words, a government enforced pension plan. It is NOT a tax, and not a payroll tax as you state.

"Yes", David will say, "but health insurance costs more..." which is why so many of us have part time jobs, with no benefits. And when you count in the Employment tax, my tax rate is about TWICE what Lester and the boys will pay when they cash out.

The "Employment" tax is not a tax at all. It is the government making sure you will not be on welfare later in life, buy guaranteeing that you will get a Social Security pension check.

And I must confess, I am bitter. I could go on for hours about lies I have personally been told by the Mays, and the outright contempt Lester has shown the people who are the most devoted to creating the wealth that he enjoys so much.

You know, just as the board of CCU was free to restrict salaries, you were free to not work for them. Your post sounds more like envy than a criticism, and is based on inaccurate data, to boot!

Yes David EDWARD Frackleton Gleason..you certainly are .What a shock!

Otherwise, you genius, cite the Inside Radio or RBR or All Access or R&R editions that reported on such, "a few months ago" as you said.

Psst" yoo hoo Narrow Focus one..I never cited those sources. Once again your peripheral vision has gone tunnel. You seem to squirm and deflect when hit with a TRUE FACT opposed to your fantasy island fabrications. I am glad to see however the reported layoff of 250 employees has been delayed due to word leaking out. At least they will have a fairly nice Christmas, however watch out after the New Year

Univision just had its best quarter ever."

Yeah for the Ceo's and VP's. The employees however ? Nada, zip, Nothing. Your "VP of PR for Lunavison" is no more than a "Versital Praveracator" of Lunavison .Your command Of B$ not withstanding.

Again "The truth will set you free" Master of Grand Illusion

Your arrogance towards employees at your company and other media companies appears to be under siege by common sense.
CC is in a dive, and the compnay heads will profit from it. Lunavison is on the cusp of the crater, you will profit from it. Yeah your Humanity is on the same level as the Administration of Germany was in the late 30's.
