Black Friday At Q105

It was Black Friday on 11-16 at Q105 New London. Shawn Murphy who did mornings was shown the door. He's being replaced by the Kidd Kraddick syndicated show and Kevin Palana the PD was given the boot too. Their section on the station website was taken off immediately.

The station used to have a 12 share and has been on the downward spiral over the past years and is like a 3 share.

Could more changes be coming????

Kidd has had a lot of success in the SOUTH.
I haven't seen or heard him do ANYTHING in the north.
Sorry to see Shaun lose a gig. I wish him the best of luck.

Kevin Palana has already landed a gig at FUN 107 in New Bedford/Fairhaven Ma. he used to work there years before the Q gig.. i guess one of the weekend/Fill/ Swing DJ's is goin into have open heart surgery and will be gone for a month or so, and they have Kevin fillin his spot. Im not sure if it will be perminat or if Kevin is looking for full time.. but thats where he is right now.

Gee, what a very corporate-sounding response from the GM.

The Day article mentions Citadel was bought out by ABC?? Surely, they check their facts, don't they. How wel documented has the ABS sale been?

I heard recently that there were more layoffs in sales as well.

Hmm... Let's channel a psychic:

Here's what I see:

Citadel/New London will be on the market within a year.

and I'll betcha it'll be Fuller taking over as well.

Q-105 quits trying to "find itself" and flips to country (WCTY is in a pretty vulnerable state right now and should be a pretty easy hill to climb)

102.3 flips to rock. I'm tired of the WCCC static, New London needs a rock station.

The Wolf doesn't change a thing.

SUB moves back to talk (it's a waste of money anyway. crappy signal and noone in SE-CT can sell spanish anyway)

Ok. now Hall's response:

WNLC figures out their "identity crisis" and goes to a bit younger format (to take on BMW)

Kool 101 stays the same (I mean, C'MON! it'd cost too much to replace the "yellow submarine")

WCTY doesn't do a thing (nothing's changed the last 5 years anyway. Same imaging, same liners, same contests) And WHAT THE HELL are they doing on the weekend???? it's AWFUL!

WICH keeps operating as is, with way too much overhead.

With all the staff cutting that Citadel/New London is doing (on-air & sales), that cluster HAS to be up for sale soon, IMHO.

As for Fuller or Hall buying it, it doesn't seem likely. Something would have to be spun off.

Of all the New London stations, Q105 is the most pathetic these days. Man, is that station dying a slow death! Horrendous morning show (some satellite crap), terrible liners, lots of stiff songs, dumb features. It's just a mess. I don't live close enough to hear it's on-air processing (I listen online), so someone else will have to speak on that.

Just responding to some of wb-radioer's comments:

Citadel New London is in fact currently posting for account executive and traffic positions so I don't know how these alleged sales layoffs jive with that. (http://www.ctba.org/jobs.cfm)

Also, wouldn't changing 102.3 to rock bite into what The Wolf is doing, if you pardon the lame pun?

In addition, I am no country music fan but perhaps WCTY hasn't changed anything in five years because things are working. I know the market hasn't been surveyed in a while, but WCTY has consistently been on top and has a loyal following.

Just some food for thought.
