Black Radio Stations & Others Could Be In Jeopardy!! Save Our Radios!!

Ok lets set some things straight.
Number 1. This Effects all stations and is in absolutely no way an attack on Minority Radio Stations.

Number 2. Radio Stations already pay Royalties to companies like ASCAP, BMI, ect. Who in turn pay the artists. Unless they were dumb and didnt read the contract right and got screwed over.

Number 3. I don't support this stupid idea of a performance tax because it WILL kill music radio as we know it. If anything the record companies should be paying radio because we are essentially giving them airplay and exposing new songs and artists. in fact radio pay's them too (oh wait I said that before).
and that one comment about radio should pay because this particular person pays for XM radio is utterly ridiculous.
That's my 2 cents.

Pirate radio stations give the pubic what they want, A Good Radio station. A large amount of Legal music stations dont give a SH-- about the public . AMERICA LOVE PIRATE RADIO STATIONS !!! Touch-FM and Hot FOREVER !!!

Do you have written proof that America "loves" pirate radio stations? I bet you don't.

I'd make encouraging pirate radio activity a Federal offense.Heavy fines and long prison terms. As an engineer who tries to keep the station I work at running legally, this kind of tripe pisses me off to no end. If these clowns want to be on the air THAT badly, why the hell don't they all get together, pool resources, buy time at a brokered station or try to buy an AM? I'd much rather that than see Federal law flouted, for whatever trumped-up reason...

I hear ya. I don't even work in the radio industry, either; I just have a good sense of right and wrong.

well why don't you?

Better question: Why doesn't crapking?

I still don't see why this law should affect black radio stations more than others. Do they have to pay a higher rate?
NO!!!!!!! Black format stations ( Urban,Urban A/C,Black Gospel,Urban oldies )make less money on average than other radio formats ( Rock,Active Rock,Top 40,New/Talk,AC,Hot AC), if this bill pass a large number of Black Format stations may be taken off the air.
Why do they make less money? Don't they know how to run their businesses?
Why can't every store make money like Walmart ?
So Wal Mart makes money because they're white?

As a Liberal, I can see his point, but I'm also reminded of a joke told to me years ago by a neocon friend (yes, I have at least one such friend):

(Fictional) Boston Globe headline (before he moved out of New England, the Globe was one of his favorite targets):

WORLD TO END TOMORROW
Woman and minorities to be most affected

How exactly?

This would be a novel idea...if it were the 1940s. I think that's been tried once or twice...

Congressman John Conyers from the Congressional Black Caucus is sponsoring a Performance Tax Bill that could put the majority of Black Radio Stations, Pirates and others out of business if the House and the Senate gets their way. Clear Channel, Radio-One and other radio medias will feel this effect.
From Kiss 108 all the way down to Hot 97. Right now, radio stations currently are playing artist's music for free; but that could all change if this bill passes and goes into law, forcing Black radio stations and others to start paying these music artist that will not see one dime of that money that's really going overseas to these major record labels rippin off these artist...AGAIN!

Question:
If U.S. Congressman John Conyers helps to get this bill pass through the House and the Senate, should President Obama veto that bill? That is a disgraced of what John Conyers is doing.

Once upon a time there was a luxury tax, that is to say a tax on fur coats, diamond rings, yachts, limousines and other luxury cars.

Many many jobs were lost when furriers went out of business, jewelers went out of business, yacht builders went out of business and luxury car dealers went out of business. None of the rich people bought any luxury items.

This is just another one of those taxes that will drive a whole lot of people out of jobs. But hey, after all the jobs are lost it will be repealed. But for now we take names of all who support it in the industry and in Congress and the White House, so that when it is repealed after the Congress part is voted out, nobody will buy the music of those who supported it, thus voting them out as well.

Yea good old Payola :D

Think about it. Most Radio Companies are cheap as hell. Why would they want to pay extra to play new songs that might not even be good. Or even bother to play music at all if they had to pay extra. The cost would be around $500,000 a year in addition to the royalties they pay now for just one Radio Station. No way a small station could afford that. And for a big Cheap Company like Clear Channel that would be a no-no except for Big market stations that make a lot of money.
I would think that the play lists would be dramatically cut resulting in further repetition (that we all hate). It would then get to the point where Talk Radio would be cheaper and more profitable. Or to simply take the station off the Air or sell it.

Good one. The joke, not his point, I still don't understand what rapking is talking about, though I rarely do.

Actually, it wouldn't be payola if the "spins" were identified. I know of at least one group that is already selling spins in blocks and with proper sponsor identification. I believe it's a Spanish group....

Did not know that. Interesting.
