Black Tuesday for CBS

Did this affect anybody in the Tampa Bay cluster? :'(

I hope this ripple doesn't effect much more of us...with the exception of the woman on WMTX.

Honestly, wouldn't it be a tremendously ironic moment if Mike Reeves survived the CBS rif, but Nancy didn't survive the Clear Channel rif?

Let's place our over/under bets now!

listened to the Q for the first time in a long time this Saturday...and given the amount of "Mason" promos..each..and every ..single...freaking....break...and occasionally a nice promo thrown in for the rest of the staff by name, down to Jack Miller, I'm thinking the full timers survived..

Q105

Has anyone noticed that Q105 has moved the music older once again? They are mainly all '70s now, with one early '80s song per hour and one or two '60s songs. They have also apparently axed the "'80s at 8" show.

Maybe that could be because:

1) the Point is showing vague signs of life
2) WGUL isn't coming back
3) WDUV is playing Creedence
4) The Eagle has the personality of a wet tuna fish sandwich
5) Its a mystery of the cosmos
6) To distinguish itself from WHPT
7) Maybe it is just a phase or maybe they ran out of Duran Duran material
8) Because the McCain campaign asked for more Seventies when the Senator was in Floriduh

Wow, I'll have to listen to the Eagle again, sounds as though they've improved! :)

Last time I listened they hadn't worked their way up to the "wet tuna sandwich level"

You nailed it. Mostly 70's which says to me they're going head on with The Eagle. Based on recent trends, that might not be such a bad idea. Leave the 80's and adult contemporary to Mix, Magic, and The Point and concentrate on tearing down the station that appears the most vulnerable. "Q" has the superior talent and personality over The Eagle so tightening the playlist will probably help.

Don’t place your bet on that one. Nancy has some power over some at CC. I’ve seen her blow off clients, skip events, and cause people to be up in arms over the crap she pulls, and still she sits there without a care in the world. I think someone may have had a little romp, and now there afraid to act on their best intentions. If she ever would have been fired, it was long ago with that DWI stunt she pulled. Something kept here there - hmmm.
That’s when I first started there. The GM was fielding calls for over a month because people demanded her resignation.
Keep your bet for a sure thing.

Too bad for John, a guy who like many of us did a lot of work and got rewarded with a pink slip and 90 days severance.

As for the Q's music shift, I've noticed it too and it makes sense in trying to get away from the Point, the Eagle, and Mix who are all very 80s heavy. But I still have a couple of problems with this.

First, if Q-105 is trying to relive its "glory days", wouldn't that be the 80s? While this Q is nothing close to what it was 20 or 25 years ago, it does have far more personality and sounds better than the three previous stations I mentioned. If they pulled out the playlists from the 80s and kept the sound of the station somewhat fun and a bit loose, I would think the people who were 12-34-years old in the station's glory days would listen more often as wealthier 35-54-year olds.

Second, and this goes back to something I said in some previous discussion about the Q's choice of (or lack of?) direction in its music, in three years the station has gone from oldies, to 70s-intensive oldies, to 70s and 80s, to 70s, 80s, and a bit of the 90s, back to 60s and 70s. Pick a flavor and stick with it! The constant shifting of the format may be a good reason why fewer people are staying with the station.

I agree wholeheartedly about the music shifts.......

God help us all in radio! Let go a professional DJ and keep the crap.......doesnt make any sense to anyone who has been in the biz for awhile. The way Mason talks...should be talk radio q105
