Blade Out At WRDU In Blaze Of Glory

Actually, he quit in the middle of his airshift yesterday, and then after starting to play a Who song, shut the studio lights and left!

THIS is why airstaff as a whole gets axed when formats flip. Would have loved to hear that audio though. Kinda like a cross between "Hopalong Howie" quitting WWWW after they flipped from rock to country, and Howard Stern circa 1988.

Depends on your point of view. Anyway, like I said, would be a great snippet of audio to get... And I got the news from All Access yesterday - 24 hours after it actually happened the day before... Shows how many listeners 106.1 has, otherwise I guarantee there'd be like five posts within an hour of it going down.

I was shocked at this lack of coverage here too.

Also, check out Blade's Blog (http://www.bobtheblade.com/blog.html) for more info.

From the blog: "The good thing about resigning on the air is I could give 'RDU, the rock station, the proper sign-off it never got."

Of course they did - they played "Free Bird" as the last song, isn't that the least decent sign-off you can give a rock station?

"Clear Channel was pretty cool with all of this, but I'm pretty sure I don't have a place in any of the 1,400 Clear Channel stations nationwide, ever again."

Ya think?

By the way, I found audio of the guy quitting on the air.

That would be their PD, Trey Cooler. That name in and of itself is as original as the idea to quit on the air.
