Blair On The Air...Now On WTIX-FM

And he sounded really great too on his Saturday and Sunday shifts 3 pm-12 midnight. Blair is a high profile addition to WTIX-FM. The whole station is sounding really good and I think they've finally got their act together for a serious run up the ratings, with Blair, Reno, Walker and TBen. A nice thing for a home-owned station!

Replied to the post from the moderator about Blair being back on the air but guess it got lost in the change. It was nice to here him again last Saturday. Guess he's back in one piece. Was his absence due to his motorcycle accident last year? Heard he had to have more surgeries after his return and that might have been the reason he was let go by Kool. Pretty crappy, if it's true but it's Entercom. Anybody know and is he just on during the weekends? Everyone on TIX-FM has been on WTIX or WRNO at one time. Nice to hear the voices you grew up listening to as a kid.

now all they need is the Real Robert Mitchell on mornings and the old tix crew will be back together...the mighty 690 lives on fm awesome..

Heard him for the first time yesterday. Glad he's back. Sounds like he's having fun. He mentioned a couple of church fairs in the area, one of which I caught today up in Laplace thanks to him. You never hear those corporate stations talking about the local things like that. Keep it up! Also, he plugged a skin cancer screening for next Saturday and said that he had skin cancer. Just wonder if that's something recent. Hope his health is doing okay and is better from the motorcycle accident.

yep! i heard him a while today and i did get the chance to catch him last weekend. was last weekend his first on 'TIX?? he does sound good and seems like he's having a lot of fun. best of luck to you Blair!

He was out for awhile due to the accident but a few days before Katrina hit he was fired from KOOL. he and I had dinner together a few months ago and I'm really happy that my old morning show room mate has gotten back on the air!Have fun Blair!Fatman

Glad to see Blair is back. I had the pleasure of listening to him do mornings at Coast 102 in Gulfport when Muniz owned it. Great guy. Had a few with him at Saints games too. :)

I know Blair's been around awhile but have learned new things about him from these posts. Didn't know he worked mornings with Fatman when Kool first went on. I can only guess why Mitchell replaced him. Probably snaked him for sure. But when did he work in Gulfport? What was Coast 102, DumbGuy? Dominic Mitchum, an engineer at WWL, worked on the coast. Wonder if it was around the same time. Seems like he could get on full time somewhere? He was on TIX-FM Sunday night around 10:30pm. How long is he on the air? Muniz is now mayor of Kenner right? Maybe he could hook up with him in politics.

I think Mitchell was on LTS and then came to Kool. Blair was in Gulfport in the early 90's. I want to say 92, 93. Coast 102 was (and still is) the oldies station on the Ms. Gulf Coast. Muniz owned it. He had a house in Pass Christian that he could listen to all of his stations (at the time he owned a station in Mobile and one in Pensacola, I think). I know he owned WJLQ in Pensacola around that time, because he brought Barry Richards in with him (yes, the same B.R. from WAIL 105). Blair lived in Waveland and would drive back to N.O. on the weekends to work his bar gig. Again, easily one of the nicest best guys in radio.

Got an email with a heads-up about these posts. The kind words go a long way. Yeah, I'm working weekends at ' TIX. Having fun again and being with folks I've worked with, at one time or another, since '75. Walker, Rod Glenn & T-Ben (a touched friend). It's nice not having to look over your shoulder for height-deprived people, who carry a machete & try to put the wood to you. And, not having to hear "what our research sez". Miss most of the folks I worked with for 13 years. Quick responses...1. Have recovered for the motorcycle accident of last April. Took 2 surgeries but after 10 months of therapy, I can wipe my butt again. Try that with one arm & the left one at that. Skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) surgery was '95. 2. Thanks Don! You, me, Ben Sudduth & Darlene; that was the best time I had on the air in 30 years. We had the cypress put to us.3. Dumb Radio Guy, who ever you are, Gulfport was '89 & 90. Still have friends over there. If there was any place to live, I'd go back. Weerd Wayne, ya listening. 18 straight years of Saints games & beers. Got season tickets again just so I can flip off Hokie & Richard Head.4. Miss my friends, like Dominic Mithchum at Entercom. Y'all know who you are. 5. Happy to be alive, especially after 3 witnesses of my accident said they thought I was dead. Glad I don't remember it. And have another bike. Thanks for the kind words.

You're right... that was the most fun I think I've had in radio in my career as well. You know what made it fun? Everyone was an EQUAL. There were no egos battling for supremacy EVER when the BLair & The Fatman show was on. That all changed when Blair was moved out. And when we laughed we were really laughing... none of that fake laughter. I remember one time when Ben's window was left open all night in the news studio and a bunch of little flying insects had gotten in. Dumbass Ben stands on his chair... a swiveling office chair... and starts swatting at the bugs on the ceilingwith his newspaper. Every time he swatted left he would swivel right and vice versa! I think we laughed for 5 solid minutes before either of us had the ability to speak! That was funny!Wanna hear another funny... the time I announced that I was going to be a father for the first time. Sadly, we lost the baby a few weeks later but the announcement made for some good laughs. This is the only aircheck I have left of my days with Blair. Click here to listen.

You Guys Were The Best

Blair and the Fatman, Ben Suddeth and Darlene had the best morning show in town. Very family fiendly and warm but also good chemistry among them all and honestly funny as hell. Not like today's really boring and "forced" morning shows like the long burned out Washup and Johnson, and the morning "crews" who bray like jackasses constantly. KOOL had it all at the beginning until the familiar voices began to be replaced by the very unfunny Mitchell and Tucker. Hopefully Blair and the Fatman will be back one day on some station that really wants to offer enjoyable family entertainment.

I don't know who you are but your check is in the mail!Thanks... it's neat to still be remembered after all these years.

Re: Good To Hear From You Blair!

Blair, it's good to hear that you are doing fine! This is Jason Reed (Jeremy) from B-97. I worked with you all at KOOL for a while before going over to the B. I ran the board every Saturday night for about a year and a half.Well, I left back in July. B.S. reasons with B.S. people.... But anyway, I talked to Michael Allen right before Christmas and he said he heard you were doing a lot better. It was good to hear....I enjoy listening to you and the rest of the gang on 'TIX! It's awesome to hear you back! Mike is gettin' it together over there and it's sounding good! T-Ben is also a good friend of my family.I get to hear you often, so keep it up! Best wishes to you Blair, and take it easy.Jeremy

Jason...good to hear you're doing well. I'm have fun again on the air at TIX-FM. It's a kick working with all the old folks there, seeing how I'm still the youngest. T-Ben's a friend of the family huh? Won't hold that against you. ;) Tell your dad & mom 'hi' for me. Keep kickin' kiddo...
