I saw a TV commercial promoting BlazeFest. Apparently Apex is promoting an all day Hard Rock concert at the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival park. I've never heard of any of the bands they're advertising for the festival but since I'm not that cool that doesn't mean they aren't popular. Should this be taken as a sign that Apex's new Active Rocker 103.1 The Blaze is doing well? Is this some way to promote the station? Or would someone else be promoting the whole thing and just bartering naming rights to the Fest in exchange for on air promotion? How does this usually work out and how should I interpret the new radio station that no one is talking about having a Rock Fest so soon? Any experts have a handle on this thing?
I know WCPR over in Biloxi has promoted festivals before and of course there's The SeaBreeze Jazz Fest... 92 Zew is pushing the Hangout Fest like it's their own show even though it's not... but otherwise I don't think radio stations around here have done many concerts like they do in big cities.
