Bleak time for Ohio.

Arbitron has released their market rankings for the fall book and our state does not fare well. Cleveland drops from 26 to 28, Cincy 28 to 29, Columbus steady at 37, Dayton drops from 59 to 60, Akron goes 73 to 74, and Toledo 87 to 88. Fortunately no one drops out of a specific tier like top 10, top30 top 50 so that's good. But every little bit hurts both in revenue and pride.

Until the government of this state takes a more enlightened attitude toward business development, we can expect further market erosion. Don't see that on the near horizon with folks like Brown, Voinovich, et al. Notice Honda's new plants are not being built here? Notice Lordstown (GM's worst quality plant) is on strike? And neither party is stepping up.

Inventor...I agree to an extent, but the truth is that CIncinnati isn't losing population. The market (and actually the city itself) have gained population. Cleveland is losing in the market and the city. So is Dayton. At least Cincinnati hasn't dropped as far as Cleveland. Columbus is growing.

Cincinnati dropped because Charlotte leapfrogged us.

Is it a surprise that people are moving to warmer weather climates and newer cities?

They also added some counties to the Charlotte ARB, that helped them.

Puerto Rico? Come on, it's a freakin' country as far as I'm concerned until they vote for state hood. We might as well include Mexico City, it has as much in common. Anyone know the advertising revenue there?

It will all be re-arranged and more correct in 3-4 years anyway when the census is taken and released

I can't wait to get a job in Columbus someday. Not necessarily in radio. Think about this. Columbus is the only city in Ohio that really has major employers other than manufacturing. And if GM goes down, look out!

RumourMonger,

By guessing by your quote you work at a menial dead end job at some soul crushing mcjob. Last time I check Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth. They are statutory US Citizens. Here is a link on what a US Commonwealth is:

You should stop listen to Hate Monger Michael "Weiner" Savage.

Enroll in some college classes. Oh wait education is a "liberal" concept to you. Or the fear of the brown people will take your job.

Ohio is losing...maybe not poulationwise in Cincy..but economically..The loanshark storefornts and othe preditory lenders are still coming into the Dayton/Miami Valley area like droves(or should I'd rather say as the parasites that they truly are) while the rest of Southwestern Ohio's bankrupcy rate is increasing due to these latter-day Snidely Whiplashes from hell!

Last one to leave Dayton.....please shut off the light if GM and Delphi go down...look for the crime rate and pokey poulation to increase as well!

Elephant: agree with much of what you said. However, there is a fiefdom mentality in a lot of cities in this state, and until these local powerbrokers die off and are replaced by people that actually operate our governments like a business instead of a political power statement, Ohio will continue to lag behind other, more business-friendly places. And it will also help when truly evil people like the Blocks in Toledo and others like them lose their power over media.

How long before West Chester leapfrogs Cincinnati in market share??

You may laugh now, but wait....

Brown people will take your job? That sounds like liberal theme song of the last how many years? I guess you have forgotten about those liberal campaign ads? It seems because someone disagrees with you, they are filled with "hate." Honestly, hate is a very subjective term. Believe it or not, Michael Savage has a Ph.D., I think he has been to more than a few college classrooms. Do you think your friends at Duke were filled with hate when they assumed that the three lacrosse players committed a felony of rape? I thought people in your ideological neck of the woods, proclaim, "Innocent until proven guilty," unless the charged parties are of a politically incorrect group. Education is a search for the truth, not a repeating of politically correct slogans or political brainwashing. Liberals clamor for diversity, unless that diversity happens to be conservative or some other form of ideology.

If you look at outsourcing, instead of repeating mindless drivel, the United States receives $1.14 for every dollar outsourced to another nation. Protectionism only benefits the protected industry. If Congress passes a law of protectionism, the protected industry is not forced to compete for consumer dollars, which would come from other American or foreign competition. If I choose to buy a Toyota from the XYZ Toyota dealer and it is a peaceable exchange of goods for currency, why should the government interfere? In other words, why should the American customer be forced to pay a the higher price of the politically protected industry? So, in other words, why should the choice be correct, if it is only your choice, I would think that would interfere with another individual's freedom? If you have been in a college classroom, you would remember that the Smoot-Hawley tariff of 1929, started the Great Depression.

Another Modern Liberal arguement that is false, that the claim that countries that have been colonies are always poor. I can think of many countries that have been colonies that are not poor, in fact, one of those colonies is where you are a citizen, the United States of America. Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong were colonies at one point in time, do you think they are still poor? By the way, Hong Kong has many people that are crowded into a small area. I know the liberal talking points state that having many people that are crowded into a small area creates poverty. Well, the last time, I looked, Hong Kong was a wealthy nation with a low rate flat tax, that says something about the "progressive tax code."

These are just a few examples of common liberal talking points, that are not only misleading, but false. You would think that the modern liberals would benefit from some courses in undergraduate economics.
