Blending of KNX & KFWB Begins

It seems like KNX and KFWB have been co-owned for quite awhile but both continued to have nearly identical formats. That seems odd to me. I remember the late Gary Franklin used to opine regularly on Don Barrett's site about making KNX the "serious" news station and KFWB the "entertainment/specialty" news and talk stations. Looks like CBS is finally starting to do that. If done properly, they could be cross marketed so that they could grow as a tandem.

This has been years overdue. Running two separate entities that do nearly the exact same thing without consolidating borders on fiduciary irresponsibility to the corporate shareholders. In just about any other arena of business, it would not be tolerated.

It is one thing to 'destroy' KFWB all news. The question is 'to become what'. I am not saying this as an opening for speculation on future formats. What I am asking is whether there is any plan beyond Angels games and infomercials.

I guess we can expect KFWB to remain in English til at least the end of the baseball season. :p

As to their demise as an "all news" station, that's already happened on many occasions. Not counting the NFL Games they carried over the years, when they became the Dodgers' flagship station, they were no longer 'all news all the time'. And that was what 5 or 6 years ago?

Is there room for another sports station in LA or is infomercials more likely?

New slogans...

"All infomercials all the time."

or

"You give us 22 minutes, we give you the... (fill in appropriately)"

"KFWB Commercial980- You give us 22 minutes, we'll tell you All You Need to Know about Colon Cleansing!!"

So far that's my favorite. ;D

Thanks, without even thinking about it, I was able to merge in there KNX's old slogan :D

Or how about this... "Give us 22 Minutes, We'll give you Hollywood Reporter, not real news" KFWB is going away, folks. I'm saddened to see this, as I listen to KFWB on my drive into work and not KNX. I usually listen to KNX at night or when I'm not listening to The Sound. Hearing KFWB reporters on KNX is a little strange, but we will get used to it. JG

It is sad to see the apparent demise of KFWB.

What if this new "format" fails on KFWB? What else can CBS do? Brokered programing, real oldies, standards?

This morning's top of the hour slogan was "From the backlots to the boardrooms ......."

I guess that's why they pushed "All News All The Time" over to KNX where it's an awkward fit

I am guessing KFWB will go all Talk, with a combination of brokered programs, nationally syndicated shows and perhaps (hopefully) some local shows. News will be limited to top and bottom of the hour.

Makes sense that's cheap enough.
