Word has it that Big Randy was suspended today for referring to someone from Shirley or Mastic as "trailer trash"? Doesn't sound like a great tactic for cume...

If I'm not mistaken, William Floyd HS is one of the biggest on the island, and a good source told me that these communities are key areas. Has there been a backlash from these towns?
 
Randy should be off because Randy is terrible. Period. If a comment he made did the trick, so be it. He plays into a stereotype and the joke gets old fast.

I can't say how much is an act and how much is really him since I don't work with him, but I would think that 75% has to be an act. It would be much more tolerable if it became maybe 15-20%. His sexual orientation is not the issue, it's the hamming it up that makes for over the top bad radio. Charles Nelson Reilly (a brilliant, talented and funny man) he is not.

School board presidents should be more worried about trying not to fleece the taxpayers than what someone says on the radio. If anything should go, it's these individual fiefdoms, their almighty attitude boards and all of it turned into something more uniform and streamlined.
 
I'll be in touch with the school board prez for a piece I'm writing in GOOD TIMES Magazine; see if there were racial overtones in the Mastic speech...
 
There weren't any racial overtones. A woman called in to play a contest. She gaver her name and town (mastic). Randy then turned around and said "if you win, everyone in the trailer park will be excited."

What I don't understand is why everytime someone gets insulted, they demand that the person that insulted them gets fired. Everyone needs to have a drink and chill out!
 
A little ribbing and joking is fine. But he continued to do it after the caller got upset. You're working at a music station, why do you have to piss off your listeners that way?

I agree that some school board stooge has no business getting involved with this. The station suspended the jock in question. End of story. UGH. ::)
 
You're right. You're not going to make any friends yelling at and berating your listeners. That being said, did this really deserve a suspension?
 
I agree. Great for Mr Latino and couldn't happen at a better time for them. And once again, TMO gets a boost in spite of themselves. Party 105 might actually be able to get some advertisers besides M&D and Whitehouse for the time being. As for Randy, I agree that his act is played out and he finally pushed the buttons that take him off the air. Thank you Randy. What did TMO promise you for that stunt? LOL.
 
don't kid yourself, this is great promo for BLI, it gives them an 'edge',something the station has never had...Randy's not going anywhere, he'll be fine, and the station is the most talked about spot on the dial right now...
 
I think this is so wrong. Randy is getting picked on and this is an example of the trash in MASTIC AND MASTIC BEACH. Many people that have a chip and dare you to knock it off the shoulder. If it is such a nice place with so many nice people out theren then why don't we have Randy on a guided tour of Mastic Beach and Mastic. BROAD CAST LIVE. I think this would be a scream.

" Oh, Mrs. Jones ( or what have you), That is such a nice rusty car in your front yard , what do you do with this dishwasher in your back yard and so on, I love the Sneakers hanging over the telephone wires here........" I am sure Randy will see some nice sights and meet some real nice people.

The high school has students on drugs. People get MUGGED walking to the deli, beat up and/or robbed. Girls are raped at the scool bus stop or abused in trailers!

Open peoples eyes to these goings on, do not defend this area od the iland it is like the third worls and a disgrace.
Spare me.

I will never listen to WBLI again and feel insulted that the producer would defend that riff raff and utter garbage in suffolk county. Randy has every right to his remarks. Dana is a mouthy woman who thinks she is the only woman in america to have a baby and is a back stabber. I never liked her much and now she really has shown her true colors.

This is a real loss to morning radio and WBLI should apologize to US the people that listen for bashing a man that is as talented as Randy.

Randy will be fine and back on the air as soon as Tuesday morning,the only real damage would have been an advertiser boycott of the morning show, which dosen't seem to be happening...
and it's been amazing publicity for the station, which is why many people believe it was all a stunt in the first place

Randy trashed an entire town, and the town fought back. If they don't want to listen, don't want to support advertisers, that is their right. Radio personalities aren't exempt from public opinion.

I've listened to Randy's act, and IMHO he's not funny, (and neither was his little joke) not even a little bit, but that is besides the point. I don't agree with his suspension, and I'm not even sure he should apologize. But if you are on the mic, you HAVE to know that in this day and age, if you trash a group, you're gonna get trashed back. The only fair game these days are the rich, politicians and celebs.

btw who started this school people vs. radio jocks vendetta??? Rutgers vs. Imus now this ;D I'm just sayin'

The people who are elected to these school boards think they are god's gift to earth, when in reality, they end up proving they can't even wipe their you know what.

The school board should be worried about the kids, not some half baked moron on WBLI
