BLI'S RANDY SUSPENDED?

RobRosen said:
You're right. You're not going to make any friends yelling at and berating your listeners. That being said, did this really deserve a suspension?

No, he deserved to be fired. For INSUBORDINATION. Not so much for what he said...that would have just been suspension-worthy.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't insult your listeners.

You called it Lalumia... and to think... the amount of publicity that was driven from this (promo stunt or not). All has blown over. Curious to see how they close out the quarter... that will tell if it had an impact or not

BLI now has an 'edge", the station is more high profile than it's ever been, and the Randy incident continues to get mentioned everywhere,it seems..not bad,eh?

Are you kidding me? Edge and BLI are two things that don't go together. Their music is boring, and jocks are liner readers. The station is looked at as one of the safest, recurrent driven, late on music CHR's in the country.

not by their listeners,it isn't; I'm not talking about their play list, but their perception by the public,based on events; radio,like tv, at the end of the day, is perception -built, eventually, EVERYONE winds up playing the same records

The perception you speak of is your own. Do you know what every listener is thinking? They got press from a comment that was made in poor taste. Most people have moved on, and could care less. However, the people that got turned off, they lost for good. They don't win in Nassau, Z100 beats them up. So, any loss in Suffolk is magnified. Randy pissed off one of their hot zips. Not smart, even JJ would admit that if injected with a truth serum. So, your perception is based on your opinion. People I talk to do nothing but complain about BLI. And, I am not talking about complaning about Randy's comment about Mastic. I'm talking about #1 Randy in general, being nothing more for gay people than Amos and Andy was for black people. #2, the music being so repetitive people wanna break their radio, and being extremely late on new music. #3 Let's not get into the jocks and the lack of $ they spend on talent. That could be a whole other thread.

You were right on again Lalumia. See the thing is "letmethinkaboutit" that you may be right about everyone complaining, but the reality is that they would not be complaining if they were not listening to BLI. They would have to be listening in order to complain about what is wrong with it. I said the same as lalumia, that this was going to be a boost for BLI because of the publicity they received. And they certainly did, they spiked up .3 in the trend, and that is ultimately what it comes down to, isnt it. Also, if youve been listening, I havent heard any of their advertisers boycotting, have you. they still have very respectable breaks. So the Randy thing turned out to be a positive and not a negative. I applaud those that tried to capitalize on the situation, but the reality is that BLI is the only 1 that won in that situation. The "we love mastic" campaigns gained nothing to the ratings. This thread is a living testament to the fact that BLI is still getting play from, the situation, because we are STILL talking about it.

They are still one of the most stale CHR's in the country. The only thing they have going for them is a 50,000 watt signal. People are forced to listen by default.

exactly; and I don't think it was ridiculous; I think it was great promo,which proved to be quite effective; Congrats to the Randy-driven success of WBLI

as I predicted, BLI has enjoyed an upward spike since Randy's high profile adventures

Can anyone actually tell us how much of a 'bump' BLI enjoyed? How has the morning show been trending over the past 12 months?

the numbers keep going up, and thanks to Newsday,The NY Post, The Daily News, Channels 12, 2, 5, 7 & 11 in NY, Randy is recognized on sight everywhere he goes;there's no denying that BLI is knocking on WALK's rapidly declining door,what with their staff purges and music tweaks

C'mon Jimmy, lose the rhetoroic. BLIs 12+ numbers have been up and down in the 4s during for a year, during the the entire WALK downfall. I've seen no evidence that BLI is making any substantial move up, only that BLI continues to lose. So instead of stating as fact, what you want to see happen, answer my previous questions.

To those who will again say that the 12+ means nothing, thats why I asked for morning show trends and comparisons.

BLI's numbers went up according to the All Access posting, not a lot, but up;
WALK's loss doesn't obligate people to go to BLI, there's plenty of other stations;
people are listening to BLI because they want to
