BLI's Ratings NoseDive

Can you post the numbers, I didnt see them, thanks! ???

Way too early to tell. Lets see what happens during the next couple months. A few times over the past few years BLI has had a book here and there where they have taken a bit of a hit only to rebound and go back up soon after. Also the numbers may have dropped a bit from late last year, but I think those numbers were a little stronger than usual. IIRC the average for the last year is probably low 5's. So going from mid to high 5's, to mid 4's might seem like a bit of a drop, but it is really going from a little stronger than normal books to a little weaker than normal. And all in all the numbers aren't that for off from the typical book over the past year or so. Even if I am mistaken and BLI's numbers previously are higher than I thought they were this is again just one month, way too early to really speculate. Not to mention they are still #1 in Cume,

In 25-54 they averaged in the 6's in the first half of 2009, and are now in the mid to high 4's. There is a definite downtrend.

And the January numbers, as posted here, are a full book... with PPM being a panel, the accuracy of a single book (month) is not improved by averaging various books, as was the case with the diary

they are in 4th place overall, having been #1 not too long ago...

4th for in-market signals, but the are 6th 12+ if you include the NYC stations (of course, this is an embedded market so the NYC signals are part of the market).

Maybe Cox can put Bubba the Love Sponge on WBLI in the morning - I mean, if they're not gonna touch Roger & JP over on WBAB... just sayin'...

It looks like the issue is middays, afternoons and then mornings. Since mornings is the least important daytime daypart in PPM, we can say that the issue is not the morning show... it's the whole station, and, particularly, middays. The big gains are by CBS FM, which has pretty much trippled in middays.

There are too many CHRs in Long Island: Z100, NOW, KC101, Kiss 95.7, 101.7 The Beach, Party 105 to an extent, and with summer tropo season coming up, Hit 106 and 95.1 WAYV will be regulars.

I can tell you from local experience that people have come to hate the morning show, trapped in their cars listening on their way to work because the SIGNAL is so powerful, not because they enjoy what they're hearing..
the result....for the rest of the day, when they're not locked in traffic, they avoid the station like the plague BECAUSE of the bad taste in their mouth from the morning show..
with their overwhelmingly powerful signal, which can even be picked up by fillings in your mouth, BLI has no excuse for their plunge except for their tragic programming choices

Having been to 49 states and sampled radio stations in many more markets over the past 10 years, I can honestly say that Al Levine is the best PM Drive jock currently on a CHR station.

I do realize the Jan numbers are a full book with the PPM as opposed to only a portion of the book under the old diary method. However, that doesn't change the fact one bad book/month doesn't = a trend. If they have another book or two like this then I think its fair to say a trend is going on. but unless that happens I don't think its fair to label it as a trend.

BLI's plunge continues in the brand new PPMs today....
time to give Vic Latino a stab at the currently floundering morning show, which is sadly an ongoing tragedy...

Yep, #1 in their target demo, 70% higher than #2 - what a tragedy ::)

The only real ongoing tragedy here is the IQ of posters who have no clue as to what is happening in radio.

their target demo must be people stuck in their cars who can't pick up any other signal besides the bore a thon that is WALK>>..

WALK should be # 1 every book for no other reason other than well it is basically the only station that covers the entire Island. The city stations don't make it much past central Suffolk, BLI gets torn up on many radio's west of the Meadowbroook. All of the other LI stations are class A's and even with a simulcast frequency have some large coverage gaps.
