Block Party Weekends on Rock 101 WGIR

After kicking back today with Rock 101 and 3 in a row of Led Zeppelin and Green Day, I got to wondering how long have they been running the Block Party Weekends?

I'm thinking WGIR started it way back in about 1980 or 1981. Am I way off in thinking they've been doing it now for almost 30 years? Does anybody remember exactly when?

I never understood blocks. Why kill a 1/4 hour with 3 Jethro Tull songs? It's as responsible as a wake and bake.

Indeed. It's the main reason Rock 101 is always at the bottom of the ratings with men. Hold on. Just got a text. My mistake. I meant to say at the top of the ratings. My bad.

Always been told that "just because you've done it for X many of years doesn't mean you should keep doing it". But, it's so much a part of their brand that killing it would be like cutting of a leg! I guess if you're not a JT fan you'd move on if it were 3 or 1 song. But I think the music choices for their blocks have been solid over the years... Mass appeal cuts with maybe a clunker in the middle but overall they've appealed to men very nicely. I'm not a JT fan but I like Aqualung... I'd sit through Thick as a Brick hoping Aqualung was on the other side... Just another way of looking at blocks...
