BloodBath at Clear Channel Salisbury

Thursday, a suit from CC came in and fired the Market Manager Frank Hamilton, as well as several others including the Sales Manager and Operations Manager. The Market Manager from CC Winchester is running the place for now. Word has it that it was not performance based, but because of a up coming sexual harrassment law suit. Now this may have been an excuse to get rid of the high salaries. Those sales executives accounts become house accounts. Two of the eight stations have been put in the Aloha Station Trust fund to be sold off. They include 921. and 105.5. Clear Channel must divest them to meet requirements of Clear Channel going private. The others are to be sold off as a group.

This is a great opportunity for Delmarva and others to pick up some top sales people.

Was the Market Manager and the DOS both carrying a list or did they let a bunch of salespeople go as well? How many people are involved in the lawsuit the whole building?

It is ironic that Clear Channel picked someone from the Winchester, VA cluster of stations to go to Salisbury due to an up and coming sexual harrassment suit considering how much drama is attached to the Winchester market

Within the last ten years pretty much all of the stations in the Winchester market Clear Channel ( Q102, WFQX, WKSI, WTFX, WMRE ), Mid Atlantic ( WINC AM&FM and WWRT/WWRE ), Prettyman (WLTF, WICL/WKMZ, WEPM-AM ) and Royal Broadcasting (WZRV and WFTR-AM ) all had their own scandals at one time or another ranging from sexual harrasment lawsuits to an announcer having sex with a 14 year old girl to wife beating to even nude pics.

There has been more drama attached to those stations than an entire month's worth of "Days Of Our Lives".

I suspect the current guy from CC in Winchester didn't have problems at his cluster or CC wouldn't have made their problems bigger than they already are by sending him in to watch over the cluster in Salisbury. Anybody know just how many people were let go at the CC cluster? I heard some sales people were let go along with the suits anybody know if that is true?

Maybe but then again most of Winchester's problems ( with CC ) took place 10 years ago and even before that when Benchmark Communications owned those stations ( except for WKSI & WMRE ) so chances are the guy taped by CC to go to Salisbury perhaps he wasn't even invovled with Winchester when those issues happened. But I do give Clear Channel credit, most of the time they do handle such things better than most everyone else. Can't speak for every market but that was the case in Winchester. I know in the case of WINC-FM when one of their jocks got busted for having sex with a young girl, WINC never did fire him ( the jock quit when he had to go to court ) and with WZRV and WEPM, when it was their turn at the scandal game both stations were like "..oh gee..we didn't know that...we know NOTHING !!", even though pretty much everyone in the area did know what was going on.

On the Philadelphia Board someone posted that Jefferson Ward has been named CC Market Manager for Salisbury-O.C. He's been kicking around the Philly market for a number of years. I believe he was most recently with Beasley and spent some time in both Allentown and Hartford.
