Bloodbath at KTRS

The new ownership of KTRS under new GM Bobby Lawrence, and PD Al Brady Law has blown out almost the entire on air staff. Gone are Bill Wilkerson, Wendy Weise, Scott St James, Meme Wolf, McGraw Milhaven, Kevin Horrigan, Randy Karraker, & Jim Holder. The only weekday host to remain with KTRS is Frank O Pinion, which has long been among the most popular afternoon shows in the market.

Among the new hires named to take their place include Keith Kramer, who is coming off of tours of Tampa and Little Rock among other markets; Scott and Casey who have been in Detroit and New Jersey will handle wakeups. Still unnamed is who will host from 9A-12PM. Tim "Monty" Montameyer from Sacramento will take over co-hosting duites of the 6:30-8 Sports show along with John Hadley, who remains with the station.

Lots more about this at stlmedia.net, for those interested...

I have had limited contact with Al Law and am of the opinion that he is too skewered toward the "talk radio must be Conservative with a capital C" school of programming.

In fairness to Mr. Law, et al, I know of Scott and Casey through their work at 101.5 in Jersey and have always liked their act. They're edgy and entertaining.

Surprising to hear that...Seems as though Law has dumped just about anyone from that school, and seem to be moving towards a similar approach to talk as Infinity's "Free FM," targeting a younger audinece.

Brian and the rest of the news staff at KTRS have apparently been spared, along with weekend hosts Dave Strauss & Paul Warner, Coast to Coast with George Noory, and Ag Director "Farmer" Dave Schumacker.

Could be - Scott & Casey would certainly fit that mold.

Possibly it's all a corporate decision, which would suck big-time...

This is more like the Jacor-ization of KTRS..

St. Louis talk radio is about to experience what the rest of the country, particularly markets that had stations owned by Jacor Communications, went through about 15 years ago. Hosts who yell a lot and hang up on callers a lot.
The idea is to flush out older listeners and revitalize the station. The ghost of Bob Hyland has lingered here long after the "At Your Service" brand of talk radio was tried, discredited and discarded elsewhere. STL was overdue.

Re: This is more like the Jacor-ization of KTRS..

KMOX owns the franchise on old-school talk in this town. From a positioning standpoint, KTRS is right to offer a true alternative rather than merely a minor league version of the Big 1120..

Perhaps they could now wipe out KFTK. Didn't Glenn Beck beat Rush is some key demos in his one hour on 97.1... perhaps a few national shows like his could be thrown in the mix.
