Bloodbath At Mainline in Louisville

Rumor has it that at least 7 people were cut loose today, including the entire staff of WLRS--Rocky Knight amon them.
Anyone have details? Street talk says staffers from B96 and WDJX were also canned.

Had a feeling rocky would not last there only because history has shown how unstable wlrs has been over the years be it at 102.3 or 105.1 and reguardless of who owns it well good luck rocky you are a talented dude!!!

When is Mainline bringing in the Jack format for 'LRS? You know it's coming...
I bet Stevie Wonder saw this one coming...especially after the huge bloodbath at Mainline Dayton last October when they flipped WGTZ from CHR Z-93 to Adult Hits Fly 92.9. Mainline must have a new holiday in mind for October: Saw-oween. ;D

The 105.1 signal is never gonna do what everyone wants it to do. That is, reliably cover Louisville. Even with the transmitter move to Mitchell Hill, they have to put a null over Louisville to protect Scottsville, IN. I'm sure they realize this now, but they would have done better to sell the 105.1 signal and keep 104.3.

I do remember them getting some good numbers like 3.8 and so like in 2002 but since then radio one has so badly damaged the wlrs brand it was going to be impossible to salvage anything keeping wlrs intact but i know anyone on this board could have told mainline that i guess they just wanted to give lrs one more try but mainline has really missed out on some opportunities like all sports no longer an option or classic country also out of the running so what will they do with 105.1???

I would say talk but that is an $$$ format so how about variety hits or oldies???

Opinions

Opinions? Don't fear the period key.

No, we don't know it's coming. You obviously don't know anything about this market. I'm betting they don't flip the format at all, this was a budget cut, pure and simple.

If they do flip formats, it won't be Jack- competing with 50,000 watt WLUE head on, and 50,000 watt WVEZ, and Mainline's own 102.3 The Max- with one of the crappiest signals in the market. That would probably be the dumbest format flip since WAKY went country.

Which practicaly guarantees they will do it. Other people eliminated in programming is WDJX PD Shane Collins and WGZB jock JC White. Plus some positions in traffic and continuity. Oddly, sales department went untouched.

I can see why they cut all of the staff on wlrs the station is deadweight but there pd at djx? Who is gonna man the hits at djx now???

Personally, I thought the Everything That ROcks format was about the worst choice of formats for that frequency that they could have picked, because of their signal. One would assume that they'll continue the format with voice tracking from out of town until they decide to flip it to something else. IF they try to flip it to something else. With that signal, there's not much they could go with. There's some oldies listeners who would probably appreciate some kind of baby boomer format. Yeah, that's it! BOOMER 105.1!!! Is there any money to be made from that demo???

Having said all that. I'll remove my tongue from my cheek to say that I really feel for the folks who lost their jobs. You guys deserve better. Hang in there.

And people wondered why Peter B. retired... I'd say its better to walk out the door than to be tossed out...

Great point and great guy.

Has anyone noticed the LRS website? If you hold your mouse over the links at the top of the page, you'll see comments like "No local jocks here". Looks like somebody tried to get some revenge on their way out the door.

The "no jocks here" would have had to been done on purpose, especially with that "Haunted" graphic; either that, or no one could figure out how to take out all of the JavaScript.

Ditto on both points. Sometimes, being tossed out is a blessing in disguise, too.

I see where on radio and records it says and i quote ben davis and george not goober lindsey will take over programming duties. Is Mr lindsey really the best choice to program djx??? It also said joe was let go of lrs it called him the program director that is not true that station has not had a pd since they fired annrae.

Also rocky has on his website about what happened and you can post comments www.rockyknight.com

My reply is 3 simple words... But its TRUE. Can it be revenge if its TRUE??

If they flip LRS before I have a chance to listen to them online as I'm not in the area, I will be so mad at them, so mad they'll change the format back. This is the station I am most interested in right now.

So they better stream that fricken LRS! lol.

And believe me, LRS or not, Louisville is my next vacation when I can travel that is. Any of you wants a party let me know.

Dude, they are firing people because they are not making budgets. I doubt streaming the stations is very high on their list of priorities.

Get a clue.
