Bloomberg Television gets major graphical overhaul

Bloomberg TV has abandoned their huge graphics and crawling stock ticker.

The video programming takes up 80% of the screen now (was 25% before). A small ticker shows basic headlines and market info, but no stock info (or anything crawling). The time and key market indices appear on a box at the top-right hand of the screen, and that goes away during commercials.

I never thought they would abandon the much-loved graphics-taking-up-75%-of-the-screen format. I wonder if this anything to do with the launch of Rupert Murdoch's Fixed (Fox) Business Channel?

It has everything to do with the launch of Fox Business Network. Bloomberg is now offering a visual format on par with the regular cable news channels. The previous graphics heavy look likely created a signifcant barrier for many advertisers who otherwise might want to advertise on Bloomberg. That's gone now and the revenue/ratings should increase.
